they're so pretty it hurts
—To the astonishment and horror of all the girls, the basket girl auction had been approved a week later, making their fundraiser for that weekend a sudden burden.
"Mrs. Giraud, you have to be pulling my leg here," Molly laughed in disbelief. "You're telling me the headteacher approved this?"
All of the boys paid no mind to the questioning as they each started yelling to each other, some making bets while others started formulating strategies.
The teacher merely stated, "He said this was the most creative idea he'd seen out of the four forms and didn't want any of the funds to overlap."
"What are the other classes doing?" Annick asked.
Sadie answered, "I know Martine's form is pressing apples and selling them."
She was annoyed when the blonde had filled her in earlier that week.
That's so creative and cheap! Why didn't we think of that, damn it? Sadie cried, kicking herself for falling for Felbec's trap of cheap and easy money.
"The form without any girls is doing a barbecue fundraiser," Michèle stated. "My family's shop has been going crazy lately."
"And I heard from Clara that her form is doing a bake sale," Simone said, making the rest of the girls growl.
They turned to glare at Felbec, who merely lifted his arms up. "Hey! Just because they can do it, doesn't mean they'll be successful!"
Sadie rolled her eyes, leaning back in her seat.
"Aw come on, Devereaux, think of the bright side!" Descamps said.
"What is the bright side of this?"
"We can have a cute first date story now!"
Sadie turned and gave Descamps a blank stare, but he wasn't phased as he gave her a cheeky smirk from his seat next to her.
After Descamps' birthday the week before, Sadie had to act like she'd never even heard of the term 'glasses' when Mrs. Giraud questioned her about going to her original seat. The teacher was not amused in the slightest, especially when Descamps and Dupin backed her up, sniggering all the while. But she let it go in favor of yelling at Annick about how her dress was 'too flamboyant' or whatever. In the meantime, Sadie was warmly welcomed by her seatmates at her return—much to her displeasure.
"Wow, nothing says cute like being sold into forced proximity," Sadie drawled.
Descamps carelessly scooched his seat to her desk and leaned a hand in front of her, spouting, "Don't look at it like that, love. Picture this—after pining endlessly for two and half months, fate gifts me the chance to prove my devotion to you: my week's allowance!"
