—Sadie was fully convinced the following day at school would be incredibly awkward. Majority of her lessons, she sat beside Molly. And while she knows she wasn't the sole reason Molly had gotten in trouble, she still felt bad. It didn't help that the way her cheek stung the rest of the night kept reminding her of it. She was not excited for class that day, but was grateful Wednesdays were only half-days.
However, she had no reason to feel awkward, since Molly didn't show up.
Sadie was surprised to find her deskmate absent for the day, glancing at Descamps from the corner of her eye questioningly. He had been preoccupied with Dupin, the pair of them whispering non-stop throughout each period. Even when they were scolded by Mr. Douillard, they'd taken to passing notes to each other back and forth. Sadie was curious about them and their third missing friend, but tried her best to pay attention through class so she could question them after homeroom.
When the final bell rang, Sadie was quick to interrupt the pair's packing, having already put away her things before the bell to maximize her time.
She stood in front of Descamps' seat, a hand pressed down on the paper he was about to put away as she leaned in. Her eyebrows were furrowed as she stared them down, while they looked up at her with slight nerves.
"What's up with you two?" she asked.
"What do you mean?" Dupin asked, throwing on a confident smile.
"Molly's suddenly missing and the two of you haven't stopped talking all day. What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong." Descamps smiled as well.
Dupin nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! If anything's wrong, it's your face!"
Sadie's jaw dropped while Descamps turned and smacked him on the back of his head. "What the fuck, Jean?"
Dupin's eyes widened before blurting out, "N-No! Not like that! I just meant—because of yesterday! I promise—"
"Is your face okay? Any bruising on it?" Descamps asked.
Sadie deadpanned. "The only thing on my face is suspicion. Where's Molly?"
The two winced, which Sadie was easily able to spot.
"And don't act like you don't know, you're so obvious," she grilled.
"Look Sadie, it's really none of your business," Dupin huffed, stuffing his textbook into his bag.
