[thirty-five]
an unwanted return

It was when Annick and Pichon finished their presentation, the last group to go, that Mr. Marcelin spoke up.

"Well done, the both of you," the teacher applauded. "Simone and Michèle, you too! I was pleasantly surprised, your presentation was commendable. And Sadie and Molly, you both know that I am very thrilled with your work, as well. It appears working in pairs has its perks! Congratulations, ladies."

This caused a laugh throughout the classroom as the boys realized the teacher's mistake. Sadie herself couldn't stop a smile from creeping up once Mr. Marcelin winced at Pichon.

"And gentlemen!" Mr. Marcelin amended.

Joseph laughed, "Yes, well done, Miss Pichon, well done!"

He started to clap, Dupin following along with a mock-impressed look as many of the boys laughed. Sadie merely rolled her eyes at the pair, as the teacher scolded them.

"Quiet, Descamps," chided Mr. Marcelin. He turned back to Pichon, but the boy didn't look bothered as he continued to smile at Annick. "You two may now take your seats."

The pair went to sit down, Pichon actually taking the seat next to Annick at the front. Sadie's brows lifted at that, before looking over at Molly.

"You see that?" Sadie asked nosily.

Molly, who was already staring the two down, scoffed. "Unfortunately. What the hell happened to everyone during this project?! First you're on a first name basis with Jojo, then those two are cuddling up to each other—are Simone and Michèle secretly lesbian lovers now?!"

The bell rang, signaling for the class to head to their last Homeroom of the day.

"Don't be ridiculous, Molly," Sadie snorted.

She picked up her bag in one hand and held her flowers delicately in the other. She left the classroom ahead of everyone else as she hurried upstairs. The staircase was quick to crowd, so she always made it a habit to rush up them before her small frame could get trampled by the six foot giants they called third years.

"Hey, Devereaux!" called a voice from behind.

Trying to stop a sigh, she turned around to find out what Joseph wanted when her eyes widened at someone who was definitely not the blond.

Sadie hurriedly turned back around, quickening her pace up the steps, when a hand reached and grabbed her elbow, yelping as she was yanked back down a few steps.

"Hey, where are you goin'?" asked Matisse, eyebrows furrowed as he smirked down at her.

She swallowed uncomfortably before she pulled her arm back. "To Homeroom? Like you should be."
