sadie loves tough guys
—Sadie felt frozen as she stood in front of the Descamps family, her parents looking at the scene in total confusion.
"Sadie?" her mother asked.
She looked at Sadie's nervous figure questionably, but Sadie ignored it as Mrs. Descamps stood up and came around the table to pull her into a big hug.
"So that's your name: Sadie! Oh my, I feel terrible that I never asked your name before, but I was just so grateful and overwhelmed that night," the woman laughed as she squeezed her.
Her eyes were blown wide, but not as wide as Descamps' as she made eye contact with him. He had sat back down in his seat, but the unreadable look on his face was still there. If it were under any other circumstance, she would've burst out laughing at him, but she couldn't bring herself to when his mother pulled back to look at her.
"Wow, I'm so glad to see you, dear," Mrs. Descamps exclaimed with a wide grin on her face. The downhearted image she initially had of the woman started to be replaced by the charming picture in front of her now: Mrs. Descamps had warm hazel eyes that spilled her feelings faster than her tongue, makeup that decorated her to the nines, and familiar dimples that poked out with her easy smile—she was truly beautiful.
Awkwardness fading away, Sadie returned the smile joyfully. "You look amazing, Madame" she complimented, causing the woman to chortle before giving her arms a squeeze.
"Me? Oh, Sadie, you look like an absolute gem! Which is a real gift, since I already know you're one on the inside as well," she said, "And call me, Suzanne!"
Sadie nodded back gratefully, before her father interrupted.
"Wow, I didn't know you two knew each other! Otherwise, I wouldn't have talked so highly of you," he joked, pulling Sadie's attention back to the rest of the table.
Suzanne proceeded to wrap an arm around one of Sadie's and gushed, "Oh! Gabriel, Vivienne, I didn't realize your daughter was this wonderful girl, right here! I absolutely adore her."
Her mother then raised a brow and asked, "How did the two of you meet?"
Sadie cleared her throat before reluctantly explaining, "Mama, Papa, this is the Descamps family."
She had emphasized the family name for her parents, which made their jaws unsubtly drop wide open.
"Descamps?" her mother gasped.
