—"God, I hate the cold," Sadie grumbled, rubbing her hands together under her giant green coat.
"I can't wait to see you when it actually starts to snow," Martine teased before she tugged on Sadie's pink scarf.
Sadie yelped at the pull, but couldn't do anything about it, unless she wanted to pull her hands out from underneath her sleeves. With November long gone, so had the autumn weather, bringing in cooler temperatures and heavier clothing. Sadie, a person who thrived in the summer and shriveled up in the winter, tended to look like a Russian nesting doll at this time of year due to how bundled up she would get. And this year was no different.
"Don't move me around too much, I'll fall over and won't be able to get back up!"
Under her giant green coat, she wore a cream colored sweater that she stole from her father. She had a soft pink maxi dress underneath for the length, but still shivered as she and Martine made it to the front gate, passing Jean-Pierre and a few seniors who were standing around.
Martine merely rolled her eyes before she threw an arm around her shoulders, making Sadie let out a surprised shriek.
"Don't! You're gonna make me fall," Sadie whined, nudging her away.
"You're so helpless," Martine mocked. She didn't mind the cold and only wore a winter coat over her usual autumn wardrobe. It worried Sadie when she opened the door to find her like that, and Martine had to refuse multiple offers of borrowing more layers so they could get to school on time. "It's not even that cold today, why do you look like a turtle?"
"The only turtle here is you with how slow you're moving!"
Sadie pursed her lips as she continued to walk briskly toward the school entrance. All of her friends were standing around the gate, but Sadie wanted to head into the heated buildings as soon as possible.
"Good morning, Devereaux," Descamps cooed from where he stood with his own friends near the steps.
"Not right now," she barked, passing them quickly.
"Where are you going?" he asked, laughing a bit at her quick dismissal.
"Inside!" She rubbed her hands together again and yelled over her shoulder, "It's too cold for this!"
Martine laughed from Sadie's side, accompanying her all the way before turning around to glimpse Descamps' sigh. "Good morning, Descamps!"
