We sat in silence as we worked. Barely anyone was in the library, and the sounds of the page flip and scratching of quills echoed. I kept writing the essay for Defense Against the Dark Arts and taking some mental notes of James's movements. Theseus sat at the end of the table, giving James a few jealous glances. I sighed and leaned back against the seat, crossing my arms, and looked away. The anger between them was palpable. "What?" asked James.

"Are you two going to stay angry at each other?" I asked them. "Neither of you know why you're angry at each other. Are you able to explain to me why you're angry at him, James?"

"Because he's been giving me attitude since the semester started," hissed James, glancing around to see is Ms. Prince was around. I looked at Theseus, silently demanding him to answer my question. Theseus sighed, rubbing his eyes.

"You two have been spending a lot of time together. And you've been ignoring me, Margaux," Theseus explained. "We used to spend hours together studying and now, nothing."

"I haven't been ignoring you, Theseus. But we have people here who report back to our parents and those people want us to marry," I told him. "We've been trying to please those people by spending more time together. Neither of us want this marriage, but we have to pretend for now."

"Who's reporting to your parents?" asked Theseus.

"Dumbledore for one," James responded, taking a quick glance behind him towards Dumbledore. "Dippet is as well. Both owl home with updates and they also get told what to look out for." Dumbledore appeared to be grading some work and rarely glanced at us yet the stares were daggers in our backs.

"Dippet is rarely around to notice much, but he does report our grades back," I added. "Yet Dumbledore reports our actions back. Those we hang around with and the things we do aren't up to royal standards."

"He can't report everything, can he?" asked Theseus.

"He doesn't. He chooses to ignore some things because we are still children who are growing up. But anything majors like disagreements with professors, fights we get involved with. Those kinds of things," I said.

"Dumbledore can report anything he wants to. He could report this to them if he wanted to, but we're not doing anything wrong, just studying," James noted. "I'm going to head out, Dumbledore will probably follow me out."

"You know there's nothing happening between us, right?" I asked Theseus. "James loves Elisabeth, a royal who's not a witch. His father is considering marriage between them, but they think we might have more in common together than with Elisabeth." Dumbledore stood up, nodded towards us, and walked back out of the library. "We can't oppose the arrangement."

"Is Elisabeth nice?"

"Yes. Her family is magical and has a long history working with the ministry. She's a squib, but she's not jealous about it. She's a good fit for James, but for now, nothing can be done about it." Theseus nodded, closing his book.

"I want us to be happy, in public. Together," Theseus remarked. "I don't want to hide away because of what is expected of you. Promise we can be truly happy together as a couple amongst our peers."

"I promise." I placed my hand on top of his. "Just not right now." He slid his hand back and straightened up. "Theo."

"I will love you, always and forever. But like you said, just not right now." He took his bag and stood up, ready to leave. "I'll see you in the morning, princess."

"Altid og for altid, min kærlighed." Altid og for altid, min kærlighed.
