Chapter Fourty-Four: A Child is Born

You look at the crumpled body of Echo, twitching as she slowly becomes a walker. You debate smashing her skull in, but choose to leave her. Alec walks into the lobby and stops.

"You good?" You ask.

You notice that he's shrinking, reverting back into a human. He groans in pain as he does getting on his knees.

You pull out your sword and place the edge on his neck, "Give me one good reason not to kill you now."

He looks back at you, "You need me."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Seraphina got the same procedure I did."

"You forget I killed two already."

"You don't understand. Those were just tests."

"So what were you?"

"G.R.A.D.E test subject five, a final draft before publication. Which is Seraphina."

You sigh putting your sword away, "You knew this whole time. This façade."

"Yes." He says getting up, "You were the first."

You see a flash of a little girl in your mind.

"What?"

"Test subject number one."

Kyan's POV

"Kyan?" Says the doctor walking out of the delivery room.

"Is she ok? What about the baby?"

"Are you the father?"

"No, he's dead."

"I see, everything went well. She has a healthy baby boy."

You smile, a wave of joy washes over you.

"Can I see her?"

"Let him in, its ok." You hear Clementine say.

The doctor steps away and you walk in the door.

"Hey."

Clementine hold the baby in her arms smiling down on him.

"How are you feeling?"

"As good as anyone would feel after pushing a baby out I guess."

You chuckle, "You think of a name yet?"

"Jonathan. Jonathan Lee Everett."

Kai's POV

You rub your temples in frustration, "This makes no sense at all."

"You were a random assignment in the experiment. Phase one, getting you to California. Phase two, Coitus with Omega."

"I was raped Alec. What the fuck was that for."

"Phase three. A child born naturally."

"Who am I Alec?"

"I wasn't told, my mission was to watch over you."

"Then they used you."

"Yes."

"That's why you saved me and Emory, to go after G.R.A.D.E?"

"Aren't you?"

You sigh, "They can't be doing this to people."

"You help me, I help you. Agree?"

"What about after?"

"We go our separate ways."

"What if you're just using me still?"

"You would be dead Kai. I didn't do this to become a monster for them."

"Why did you help them then Alec?"

"To help save the population, but it changed after the Fireflies failed their mission."

Memories from before flash in your mind.

"You know what I'm talking about, don't you?"

"A girl, Emily? Emilia?"

"Ellie."

You hold your head as the memories flood into your mind.

"You're beginning to remember aren't you?"

You nod, "A beach mostly. We were there together."

Alec stands up holding onto a wall, "Let's get back to Emory."
