TWO POWERS (Todoroki Shoto x Reader)

Chapter 22: Move

You awaken on your own and, on your way to the bathroom, you pass by the living room. You notice that Shoto is still sleeping on the couch. You're happy that he was able to fall asleep, but you didn't expect him to stay in the living room. Anyway, you tidy yourself and change clothes. By this time, Endeavour is up and about the kitchen as well. But you decide to go check Shoto's temperature. Something seems off.

As you place your hand on this forehead, his eyes open slowly. "Good morning," you greet him, but he closes his eyes again without a response. Since you can't tell if he has a fever or not with your hand, you push back his hair and place your lips on his forehead, just like your mom had done for you before. You still can't tell if he has a fever or not. Probably not then, you decide, pulling back.

"How are you feeling, Shoto?" you ask as you look at him. He is staring at you, eyes wide, before smiling gently.

"Quite bad about prying yesterday. Sorry about that," he says as he's standing up and promptly collapses onto a hug on you. You hug back but look at Endeavour with some questions. He waves his hand in dismissal. "I heard from Fuyumi that sometimes he is like this in the mornings."

"Fuyumi?"

"That's my older sister," Shoto explains onto your shoulder, his tired voice muffled.

You don't have the chance to comment as Endeavour cuts you off to share the day's agenda. You are to leave as soon as possible to reach Endeavour's agency where you will get your stuff back and sign the contract, but also get in contact with everyone that needs to be filled in, assured of your safety or apologized to.

The ride back takes a while and when you get your phone back, you are shown to your own meeting room to make the necessary phone calls. You first call Gran Torino and apologize once again and then regret it as you sit through the lecture he gives to you about not putting yourself in danger when you don't have all the skills to back it up, etc. Then you call All Might, answering his questions about your safety and informing him of the kind of contract you're about to sign with Endeavour. He seems supportive. You also reiterate your intention of not becoming a hero should you fail to relearn to use your birth quirk. He supports that too, saying that he'll keep an eye out for any potential candidates. You also call Aizawa, simply expressing your wish to return to school. He tells you to drop by later.

Having made all the calls, you continue sitting in the meeting room. It is a nice space with dark wood walls and cushioned seats, and you've positioned yourself to be able to look through the frosted glass walls for any approaching figures, which turned out to be very useful since you weren't startled by the person dropping off the stuff you left at Gran Torino's place.

Telling yourself that you have nothing else to do, you start designing your new hero costume. You take into consideration both your current situation with your arms but also mobility and comfort. You can only hear your pencil scratching the paper in the room, but each scratch is also a scratch at your heart, which is pleading you to set things straight. Not being able to bear it, you pick up your mom and call her. You couldn't let her see Endeavour's contract before you told her yourself.

Every dial tone is adding to your sense of dread, but thankfully she picks up and you can explain to her how you inherited All Might's quirk and had to keep it a secret, training it so much that you couldn't use her quirk anymore. She simply thanks you for telling her and, since Shoto pulled open the door, you tell her you need to hang up. "Love you, mom."

"Finally called her?"

"Yeah. I feel so much better now."

He smiles. "The contract's ready."

You follow him to Endeavour's office where you are given a hard copy to read. You take your time despite feeling two sets of eyes on you. After finishing reading everything, you do your best to recall all the questions that arose.
