"And remember, Young Tsukauchi, you should start using my power from day one."
~
"A quirk assessment test?" everyone chorosed in response to Mr Aizawa's initial announcement.
"But orientation? We're gonna miss it!" the bubbly brunette pleads in desperation. You are standing in the back row, next to the boy with half white half red hair whose name you don't know.
"If you really wanna make the big leagues, you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies. Here at U.A we're not tethered to traditions. That means I get to run my class however I see fit. You've been taking standardized tests most of your lives, but you never got to use your quirks in physical exams before. The country is still trying to pretend we're all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational. One day the ministry of education will learn."
"Tsukauchi," Aizawa addresses you, "you managed to get the most points on the entrance exam." This comment causes everyone to turn and look at you, even you yourself are surprised at the fact that you got the most points.
Aizawa continues as if it's not a big deal, "What was your farthest distance throw at the softball back in junior high?"
"I- I don't remember. I wasn't very athletic back then."
Aizawa stares at you for a moment without saying a word.
"Right. Well, try doing it with your quirk. Anything goes, just stay in the circle. Go on, you're wasting our time."
You look around you, some people are still staring at you. The blonde whose desk is in front of you is giving you a really nasty glare. You hear the boy from earlier whisper to you, "What's wrong?"
His question snaps you back to reality and you remember to walk up to the ring. Your teacher hands you the ball and off you go.
You buy yourself time with quick warm ups, thinking hard about how to live up to everyone's expectations for a student who got the most points. I guess I really do have to use his power. Five percent. Whole body.
As you concentrate your body starts emitting tiny yellow sparkles. They're miniscule which makes them hard to notice, but they're there. If it were pitch black, you would easily be spotted.
The situation with your new quirk is an uncomfortable one since you can't combine it with your mom's heat quirk. They are two separate modes you have to make a conscious choice between. You're not sure what the problem is exactly but All Might suspects that it's a mental block instead of a physical one – you're protecting your original power.
But there is another problem. Using One For All at fifteen percent feels too different from the comfortable five percent. The highest output you've achieved is twenty percent but that nearly overwhelmed you completely. You could feel the power running through your veins, as if trying to find the smallest opening to escape. When you tried to move you stretched your body weird and you've been scared to move at higher percentages ever since.
This happened earlier this week so you take this into consideration, opting for five percent power. You're sure you can control your body at such a low power level. After charging up and considering your form, you throw the ball. Everyone gasps as it flies out of sight.
Aizawa's phone beeps and he looks at it before turning it for the whole class to see.
"518 meters. Not a result you would get without using your quirk I'm assuming."
"Wow! That's kind of incredible," someone says. Others murmur something along those lines as well.
"Now that the demonstration is over," Aizawa continues, "get ready for the 50 meter dash. There's no time to waste. Give it your all. If you don't show me you have potential, I won't hesitate to send you home."
