AMIELE'S POV:
Erik had declared three things since the meeting with Dex:
1. I would not be able to talk to him; which would be quite hard because even though I don't like him like that, he's my best friend.
2. I was to be in the same building as Erik at almost all times; good luck trying to get me to do that.
3. I was going to be the Prima Donna, or at least in the operas.
I ran my fingers over the familiar materials in the prima Donna room. Memories flooded back to me of all the good times we had in the dream, and I sighed in artificial happiness. I was already in costume for the opera we would be performing, I actually forgot it's name considering I was just told I would be doing rehearsals today.
I heard a rap on the door and opened to see Erik, a rare genuine smile plastered on his face. "Hello Mia amoure, may I escort you to rehearsals?"
"Of course."I answered smiling widely back and taking the offered crook of his elbow. I noticed a small golden band on his ring finger, I frowned and tried to peek at t without being obvious.
"What's wrong Mia amoure?" Erik asked concerned his smile turning into a frown as well.
"Oh nothing just thinking." I pried my eyes from his finger and shook off the thought, 'it's probably nothing.'
We reached the stage and I was introduced to everyone. Here were a lot of people and everyone gave Erik stares for his mask. I heard one girl whisper about his mask and another about how handsome he was. I shot them the dirtiest glare I could muster and turned to Erik as he spoke to me. "I have business to attend to, I will be down to watch later." He explained and pecked my lips.
I nodded and waved to him as he vanished down the hall.
I warmed up first, going through vaguely familiar arias and hitting high and low notes.
Once I finished that we began going over places, actions, and songs. It was quite easy to pick up on after only about twenty minutes of practice. We got stuck on one note change and no one could figure it out, so I suggested I could go to Erik and ask for help. Mr. Venue, our composer, agreed to it. It was mainly just a ploy to allow me to see him again.
I scurried up to Erik's office not hearing that Erik was in fact not alone in the office. I opened the door and found Erik kissing another woman. I couldn't see who the girl was until she pulled away.
It was Christine.
"I love you too Erik." I heard Christine whisper.
And that's when everything clicked.
Christine and Erik were married.
"I'm so sorry, I was just going to ask for help with the piece. I didn't mean to interrupt anything." I said rather confidently, holding in the tears I didn't dare to shed.
She may have stolen my love. And he may have gone with her, but I was determined to show no weakness.
Before Erik could protest Christine cut him off. "It's so great to see you Amiele! I would have invited you to the wedding but you were in a coma."I just nodded and smiled at her smugness, where was the Christine I had known? The one I had come so close to? The one I and thought of as a sister...?
I ran out the door and fled down the hall, tears pouring done my face like a waterfall now. I heard footsteps behind me but pumped my legs faster, I was much stronger now.
I didn't even go back to rehearsals. I ran out the large entrance doors and ran to the bench I would always meet Dex at. And there he was.
Waiting.
I saw his eyes light up at the sight of me and and then dim at my tears. He ran and embraced me, enclosing me in his large arms. He pulled back and stroked the tears away with his thumb. "I'm so sorry Dex! I should have- I'm sorry! So sorry." I rambled between sobs my body shaking and my breath coming out in short quick gasps.
"Shhh, shhhhhhh, it's ok Amiele. It's not your fault. But so help me I will kill that man for what he's done to you." He soothed, adding the last part with venom dripping from his voice.
He kissed the top of my head to comfort me and sunk down on the bench, me curled up in his lap. "Everything will be okay. Everything will be ok." He kept on repeating this until my breathing leveled out.
"Thanks so much."
"For you Amiele." He said playfully, I let out a laugh that sounded more like a cackle, and he chuckled at this. "I was wondering, if a beautiful girl would do me the highest honor of going to dinner with me." Dex began sounding mock courteous.
"And who might this be?" I asked after a dramatic gasp.
"Her name starts with and A and ends with meal." He hinted playfully.
"My name is NOT a three course meal Dex." I teased sounding mock hurt.
"Ah yes but we will be eating some of those tonight, won't we?" He asked hopefully smirking at me, I giggled slightly at his clever word play.
I felt the full force punch in my gut at Erik leaving me, but Dex was here. And he's nice and cute and funny, and he makes a very good living already.
Dex is here, and he wants me, and Erik doesn't want me.
Maybe things wouldn't be so bad.
I needed to try for Dexter though, I coldly go back into my depression, I salt least had to try.
If Erik didn't want me anymore so be it.
"Yes we shall."
