|| CHAPTER SIXTEEN ||
❝ SHADOWS OF THE CROWN ❞
IN THE MORNING, the stolen car navigated through the Texan town, winding its way towards the address Apollo had whispered to Lilith.
The trio, battle-weary but undeterred, exchanged glances of determination. The next destination held the promise of finding Apollo's demigod son, Will, a natural healer caught in the clutches of some unknown peril.
As they approached the address, the suburban landscape unfolded before us, neat houses and well-tended lawns stretching beneath the Texan sky. The stolen car finally pulled up in front of a cozy home with a white picket fence.
Lilith turned off the engine, and the trio stepped out onto the quiet suburban street.
The front door opened, revealing a woman with worry lines etched on her face. Her eyes widened as she saw the celestial trio.
Lilith, Marcus, and Evelyn, not exactly blending in with the suburban surroundings, exchanged awkward glances as they approached.
The woman, presumably Will's mother, wiped away a tear that had escaped down her cheek. "Are you... Are you here about Will?"
Lilith, taking the lead, nodded solemnly. "Yes, we're here to help. We're friends of Apollo, and he sent us to find and bring back his son. Can we come in?"
The woman, her eyes filled with a mix of hope and fear, opened the door wider. "Please, come in. I'm Will's mother, Emily."
The trio entered the cozy home, the scent of home-cooked meals and familial warmth lingering in the air.
Lilith, Marcus, and Evelyn found themselves in a living room adorned with family photos and comfortable furniture.
Emily gestured for them to sit, her eyes brimming with unspoken emotions.
Lilith, sensing the weight of the moment, spoke gently. "Emily, we understand this must be difficult for you. We're here to help, and we'll do everything in our power to bring Will back safely."
Emily, her voice trembling, sat across from us. "He's a good boy, always helping others. I don't know why this had to happen to him."
Marcus, attempting to lighten the mood, offered a comforting smile. "Don't worry, Emily, we'll make sure Will comes back in one piece."
Evelyn, with a supportive nod, added, "And maybe we can throw in a dessert party once he's safe and sound."
The attempt at humor, while well-intentioned, only seemed to intensify Emily's emotions.
She looked down, trying to compose herself. "I appreciate your help, but I'm just so scared of losing him. He's my everything."
Lilith, a bit awkward in the face of such raw emotion, placed a comforting hand on Emily's shoulder. "We'll do our best, Emily. Can you tell us more about where he might be? Apollo mentioned something about an amusement park?"
