LILITH WOULDN'T LET PERCY'S HAND GO.

She was clutching his hand like her life depends on it.

At the edge of the dump, they found a tow truck so old it might've been thrown away itself. But the engine started, and it had a full tank of gas, so they decided to borrow it.

Thalia drove. She didn't seem as stunned as Zoe or Grover or Marcus or Percy or Lilith.

"The skeletons are still out there," Thalia reminded them. "We need to keep moving."

She navigated them through the desert, under clear blue skies, the sand so bright it hurt to look at, like an insult after losing Bianca.

Zoe sat up front with Thalia.

Marcus, Lilith, Grover and Percy sat in the pickup bed, leaning against the tow wench. The air was cool and dry, but the nice weather just seemed like an insult after losing Bianca.

Lilith's fist clutched tightly, hard enough to draw out crescent moons in her palm. Hard enough to draw out blood.

It should have been her. She should've have been quicker. She should've killed to giant for touching her sister. She should've have seen it before it happened.

Not even three hours and Lilith had lost two of the people she loved the most.

She thought of Nico. His happy smile would surely go to Hades when he will get the news. No matter how much he tries to hate her, she was still his sister at the end of the day.

She was family.

Lilith's head was leaning against Percy's shoulder. His arm was clutching her tightly as if she would disappear any moment. He was making sure he was near Lilith if she needed anyone.

Lilith sighed softly, her head on his shoulder. She felt his hand run through her hairs bringing a bit of comfort as she drew stars on his chest with her fingers.

"It should've been me," Percy said. "I should've gone into the giant."

"Shut up, Jackson." Marcus snapped. His blue eyes boring into his, "Don't say that."

Percy shook his head, "No, Grey. It was my mistake. It should've been me."

"Don't say that!" Grover panicked. "It's bad enough Annabeth is gone, and now Bianca. Do you think I could stand it if…" He sniffled. "Do you think anybody else would be my best friend?"

"Ah, Grover…"

He wiped under his eyes with an oily cloth that left his face grimy, like he had on war paint. "I'm… I'm okay."
