Arabella POV
Later that night, I found myself alone due to the fact that the only three people who cared to spend time with me (aside from Imelda) were cleaning cauldrons for Professor Sharp. As I tried to fight off boredom, I decided that it would be wise for me to head to the library and do some research.
I wasn't sure what I was looking for, but I thought it might be wise to let my ancient magic guide the way, if I could figure out how to do that. Fig would return from the Ministry eventually, and then he and I could finally get back on track with Miriam's mission.
The library was quiet, even though it wasn't technically closed yet. I decided to pick a shelf to start, close my eyes, and let my magic guide me. There was a tingling feeling in my fingertips that kept building as I ran my fingers along the shelves. It seemed to be...working? I followed it forward... forward...and almost audibly gasped at the sight in front of me.
Marvolo fucking Gaunt had some blonde haired female pressed against the bookcase, and he was ravaging her. I immediately ducked back behind the bookcase that my dumb magic had led me to and hoped to Merlin that he didn't see me. There was a gap in between the books on the shelf that allowed me just enough space to look through with one eye...
His hands were all over her, holding her down, pulling her hair, and then they were under her skirt. When she moaned, I decided I must be out of my fucking mind to be eavesdropping like this. I grabbed a few books without knowing what they were and ran to a different spot in the library, out of view.
Interestingly enough, one of the books I grabbed was a biography of Salazar Slytherin. I began to read about his life, his beliefs, and it became evidently clear that he likely has more than one secret lying around this school. Perhaps there were more detailed texts in the Restricted section...
"Enjoy the show?"
Oh you have got to be kidding me.
Marvolo Gaunt walked up to me and leaned right against the table where I was reading.
I sighed and looked up at him from my seat. "Why is it that you pop up right at the exact time I wish to not be reminded of your existence? Are you stalking me?"
"I'm not the one who just got a free show while they were hiding behind a bookshelf. I didn't take you for a voyeur." He smiled wickedly at me.
So he saw me. Great.
I scoffed. "A terrible show, at that. I'd like a refund."
I got the feeling that he wasn't used to people challenging or talking back to him like this and let a smile pull at my lips.
"I'll do you one better. I can give you a front row seat." As if that thought wasn't revolting enough, he actually patted his lap. I slammed the book shut and stood up so I was directly in his face. Well, not directly. He was probably about 6'4" compared to my tiny frame. My confidence made me feel taller.
I smirked at him. "Is that what you think about at night when you close your eyes?" As I moved closer to him against the table, he slid his hands back away from me. "Is that what you thought about when you were kissing her?" His normally confident demeanor was faltering right in front of my eyes. Now my hands were on either side of his hips and our noses were almost touching.
"Me?" My voice was soft and breathy as I held his gaze, and Marvolo's breath hitched. It was the single most satisfying sound I've ever heard because I knew, in that moment, I could affect him. I moved my mouth closer to his ear so my cheek brushed his.
