I know. I'm surprised too. An idea that doesn't involve Tower of God. Might get more of those when I fully start rereading the series.
Just finished reading the current 174 chapters of Mercenary Enrollment yesterday. The idea came to me during work today. Almost forgot it because I didn't put it in my phone's notes. Remembered as I entered my room hours later.
/ Three points that made me think of this crossover.
1. The story by tobi7th, COTE: Ayanokouji's Return. Koji is the sole survivor of a plane crash in a foreign country. Just like Yu Ijin (how it was spelled in the translation I read).
2. Koji was 9 years old when the WR was making him fight trained adults.
3. Ijin and 032 were between 7-9 when they went through the numbers training.
/ Scenario
/ Not long after the WR started having Koji fight trained adults, PapaKoji was overseas already. He has a few stubborn investors he needs to show Koji off too. He contacts the WR and has a few instructors and guards fly with Koji out of country to show him off. Plane goes down in whichever country the Camp is.
/ He was either on the same plane crash as Ijin or their planes crashes were a few months apart. Coincidences can be freaky. He's roped into the Number Training Program. Nothing he's too unfamiliar with. Just a major emphasis on combat, weapons and missions.
/ Koji decides to stay in the top 10 range to avoid being seen as an easy target but avoiding the top spot to avoid attention and any possible leader responsivities (7 or 9). He notices Ijin's potential early on and helps him improve faster to move the attention to him. I feel like 002 would notice, Ijin too later on.
/ A few years after the betrayal and alleged death Ijin (001), but before Mercenary Enrollment, Koji comes to 002 for a favor. He wants a vacation and cut ties to his past (PapaKoji and the WR). He explains the basics of how it's a secret government facility to raise people to be faster, stronger and smarter. He wants to go to a government funded and run school. Besides the chance to go to a real school, he believes his and his supporters will notice his presence and move to reclaim him. He will then move to eliminate them, steel any funding or money he can from the project and his father, maybe even bring some WR students as the testing stages for small teams ran by and taught by the numbers who lead them.
/ 002 questions if he's doing all that for what the WR did to him and if he'll do the same to the Camp. Koji tells him that he won't need to destroy the camp. He believes 002 and the other Numbers will destroy the Camp before he even finishes his vacation. After 001's betrayal, the Camp and those behind the Camp will see the Numbers as uncontrollable and move to dispose of them overtime.
/ 002 is interest in Koji's plans and ideas. He also wants to see if his prediction of the future conflict is correct.
He then either helps Koji fake his death till he's done with his personal mission, and they deal with the consequences after, or they send Koji off before 002 convinces Mad Dog and the others that Koji has good reasons and will return at some point. These are plans under the assumption that the Numbers will still be affiliated with the Camp when Koji is done. 002 will of course reveal the truth of Koji's status before then to the other Numbers if the Camp betrays them and he needs to call Koji to help clean out the Camp (or when he learns 001 is alive, Koji reveals he never thought he died or killed the other Numbers anyway.)
/ It would also be funny to see Ijin's reaction if his sister falls for Koji after meeting her brother's old friend.
