Gonzalo's POV
*
I stepped out of the lobby with one of my men hanging an umbrella over my head. Walking to the car, it was opened and I swiftly got in. Jim got in the driver's seat while the rest of my men got in the other cars behind. I loosened my necktie, feeling relief spread through me.
"Where to, boss?" Jim asked me in a slightly anxious voice. Like hell he wouldn't be anxious.
I'd threatened to send him on a mission with April, our most ruthless female assassin if he didn't agree to go on just this one date that Rosa had been trying to persuade him to go for with one of our workers.
Apparently one of our maids was totally smitten by him and when he went on a mission two weeks ago and returned with a gun wound in his side, she had tended to him and even cried at his bedside, thinking he was going to die. Rosa got to know about it and begged him to at least ask her on one date as a token of appreciation but he'd brutally refused.
The surprising thing though, was that Jim really liked the girl. The men had confirmed it. But even though he was two years older than me, he'd never asked a girl out before and he had no idea how to. Instead of learning the ropes by asking from experts like me, he decided to shut the whole thing down.
And when my lovely wife asked me to try and convince him, of course I would do anything to make her happy. Now he had only two choices before him: ask the girl out on a date or go on a mission with April.
No one wanted to work with April. Well, I didn't have any issue with it but others obviously did. They believed she was too gruesome in handling things. I wasn't a fucked up psycho, they were just a bunch of chicken!
"Where else? Home of course. Romeo will sort out all my office work. From today onwards, I be working from home." I told him with a smile, nodding at my own achievement while looking forward to my wife's look when she sees me at home three hours earlier than the time set for our ultrasound appointment.
"Oh. Okay. I knew this week was packed with work so I had to confirm if we have any more meetings that didn't get postponed. Anyway, family comes first." Jim chuckled.
The ride home was slower than I expected. I sighed for the third time and picked my phone as it began to ring.
"Hey babe." I greeted Rosa.
"Gonzie, can you leave work for a while? I'm on my way to the hospital for the ultrasound..." She breathed into the speaker.
A frown morphed on my face. "But we were supposed to go together-"
"Yes. I stepped out for a while and decided to just do the ultrasound now once and for all. Guess I'm more excited than I thought. Besides, Dr James is available at the moment so I'm milking that opportunity. Can you meet me in about thirty minutes? If it's not possible, we can stick to the original time."
"I'll be on my way. Wait for me." I told her with another sigh. We agreed to meet at home later and go to the hospital together and the fact that she just casually went there didn't sit well with me one bit.
Regardless, I was excited to know our baby's gender.
I rested my head on the headrest and sighed in contentment, smiling.
When I got home, the house was busy and everyone was busy cleaning up one thing or another. I walked up the stairs, wanting to just wrap my arms around Rosa before I could find out what was happening.
"Gonzie..." Rosa got up from the reading table where she was sitting and facing the laptop. Instinctively, I took off my suit jacket and threw it on the bed.
