It was the fourth show and already over a week since Stevie left home. She had been on the phone with Lindsey whenever she had a moment to herself. She couldn't believe how attached she had become to him over such a short period of time. She missed her children and Lynn, but she also missed Lindsey immensely.
She couldn't lie and say she wasn't enjoying the tour, because she was and she loved doing it with Don. But... Everything on Stevie's part was friendly, while Don had said some things that left her thinking. He never missed a chance to look at her or touch her, during soundchecks or when everyone would go out for drinks after each show. Just like any other woman she enjoyed the attention, but it was getting a little too much.
After taking a shower and changing into more casual clothes, Stevie headed downstairs to meet with Don and other members of their bands, including Sharon and Lori, which was comforting to know they'll be around. Stevie could surround herself with the girls and hopefully get back to her room after a couple of drinks before too late.
She spotted the group right away as she entered the restaurant of the hotel. Smiling, she approached them and there was an empty seat right next to Don. She didn't want to seem strange and ask for a switch, so she sat down and placed her order for a glass of red wine.
"I can't believe we'll be halfway through the tour after the next show." Someone said and others agreed.
"It's been great so far. How didn't we think of doing this years ago?" Don nudged Stevie, who just shrugged.
"It just didn't come up."
"I was actually thinking... What if we take a break after and then book some dates overseas?" Everyone immediately started discussing it excitedly, but Stevie kept quiet. "What do you think?"
"Really, I'm not even thinking about that yet. First, I want to be done with this tour and honestly, I don't want to leave for like a year and miss out on so much that's happening at home."
"Right, how about we skip this topic for now?"
She nodded, smiling gratefully as they began talking about anything that came to mind. But Stevie mostly kept silent, sipping on her wine, not even noticing how it just kept getting refilled. She had to have had four glasses down by now and she started loosening up a bit, engaging more into conversations.
Stevie's two saviors were of the first ones to leave, as she had started enjoying herself, her hotel room being the last thing on her mind right now. Although, she didn't miss Don getting a lot more handsy, and the looks she was getting from him were nothing but suggestive.
She had easily finished off two bottles by herself, the wine starting to get to her. Stevie excused herself and left for the bathroom to take a moment, before she freshened up and returned to the others. Only that she found almost everyone gone, except Don.
"How long did I take?" Stevie laughed, retaking her seat.
"Not too long, but everyone's getting old, they can't keep their alcohol down as they used to."
"And I was starting to have fun." She sighed heavily, yawning in the process. "Sorry."
"How about a breath of fresh air?"
"Actually, I was thinking of going too."
"Oh come on, it's still early. For you anyway."
Stevie smiled, thinking. "Okay, sure. Where are we going? Is it safe in the streets at this time?"
"We're not leaving the hotel, we're going on the rooftop."
Stevie was slightly hesitant, but with a little more encouragement from Don, she agreed and soon they were in the elevator, going up. They were silent and there was safe distance between them, which relaxed her greatly.
