I walked into a house party where I instantly spotted Zee and Kate whispering in the corner of the living room. I walked over and they both smiled pulling me into a tight hug.
"Oh my god Blakey! Happy New Year's Eve! I haven't seen you since you dipped out of Tommy's after stealing his dad's vodka!" Kate yelled as she released me, "He's still upset about that by the way."
Zee rolled her eyes "Come on Kate let's not shame the poor girl for having a fun night."
I laughed dryly, shuddering at the memory, "Yeah my mom was pretty upset considering I never made it home so I've been grounded since."
"Two questions," Kate said, holding up a peace sign, "one where the hell did you sleep and two, how the hell are you here now then? That was like four days ago."
"I uh, I slept at Devin's and I kinda snuck out." I stated with a shrug.
Kate and Zee shared a look before Zee turned to me, "So how did you end up at Devin's?"
"Talking about me are you gossip girl?" Devin questioned as she appeared beside me making my blood run cold.
Zee froze under her stare and Kate spoke up, "No, Blake here was just about to explain how she ended up at your place the other night."
"Oh were you? I'm quite excited to hear, considering you still haven't explained it to me either." She stated, raising an eyebrow as though to challenge me.
Challenge accepted.
"Devin here had been obsessively texting me for days since we got into a little fight and my drunk self thought four in the morning was the perfect time to, well, make up I guess." I stated, her eyes going wide.
She bit her tongue and both Kate and Zee were wide eyed staring at the two of us.
"Good to hear you can recall more of that night now. Seemed like you had totally forgot the whole thing when we talked the next morning."
"Oh I recall."
Well, I recall bits and pieces, maybe like 25% which is better than nothing I suppose.
"Do you remember telling me you love me?" She questioned, her face serious as a moment of silence passed before she smiled and laughed, "I'm only joking, your face right now is priceless."
At this point Kate and Zee were glued to our conversation like it was reality TV and my palms were sweatier than the drunkest mother fucker at this party. A vision flashed through me like a lightning bolt splitting a tree in half. Me on Devin's bed, saying I love you, and then puking like a real princess charming would after confessing something so heavy. The recognition in my eyes must've been obvious because Devin was now looking at me with sincerity and vulnerability in her electric eyes.
I fizzled out with the atoms of a million lifetimes fading into one another, expanding and contracting in unison. The particles of my being shifting like sand in a wind tunnel as I was blown further and further from the past and into the excruciating truth of a future I'd yet to foresee. The melody of a beautiful laugh and a symphony of keys played in the air, dancing as though it were a mere game. The twists and turned in, turned out, nature of this inescapable endlessness clawed at my very sanity as though the construct had yet to be created. The laughter dropped an octave, the iridescent glow of a shredded beam of contrasted light dimmed as I flew through the shadowed extremities of reality. One moment I felt lighter than air and the next I was flat on my back, the wind knocked right out of me as I stared up at a dark gray sky. A shadow lurked in the corner of my vision and I peered over to see the familiar figure looking down at me with the devil's grin. Her features were a blank canvas but her eyes unmistakably were identical to Devin's.
