Sabrina's POV
Who knew that childbirth hurt like a motherfucker?
I know, right?
Shocker.
Of course, I was excited to see and hold my baby, but right now I just wanted it to get the fuck out of me. I also wanted Max to be here. I wanted to hold his hand and watch him squirm as I squeezed his fingers.
I had always imagined him here for this. I wasn't prepared to do this alone. I couldn't do it alone. I needed his presence, his strength, and his voice to get through this.
We had been at it for hours. Just push, break, breathe, push, you're doing great, push, scream, fuuuuuuuck.
I had never felt this level of exhaustion before. But I knew that I had to keep going.
"Aaand push." The nurse's voice was like an echo, echoing through the room as I summoned every ounce of strength left in me.
"I'm here! I'm here!" The door burst open.
"Sir! What are you doing in here!?" One of the nurses gasped.
"Shush your pie hole, madam." I snapped at her.
Max rushed across the room. His hair was a mess, and he looked like he hadn't slept in days, but he was here. He was here, and that was all that mattered. Relife would be an insult to what I felt in that moment.
"Max, max, max," I kept whispering as if I had to convince myself that he was really there.
"I'm here, love." He whispered back, pressing his lips against my hair. I felt his hand slide down my arm and interlock his fingers with mine.
"We're almost there. I need to push." The nurse told me, his voice firm.
"No, no, please, I can't..." I let out a small sob. "Please don't make me do this." I turned my head to look at Max. His eyes were filled with love.
"I know, I know, baby. But you need to do this. It's almost over, I promise." He told me, his voice quiet, but the strength of the words was overwhelming. "You are so, so strong."
Tears streamed down my face as I clung onto Max's words, desperately searching for the strength to continue. The pain radiating through my body felt unbearable, but his unwavering support gave me a glimmer of hope.
I squeezed his hand tightly, drawing strength from his touch, as I braced myself for what was to come. The nurse's firm voice echoed in my ears, urging me to keep going to push through the pain.
And then... it was over.
I kept my eyes closed tightly.
Why had it stopped?
Was I dead?
Slowly, I opened my eyes, the bright lights of the delivery room blinding me for a moment. I heard the sound of crying fill my ears.
As my vision adjusted, I saw the nurse holding a tiny, squirming bundle in her arms. It took a moment for my foggy mind to register what I was seeing – my baby.
A wave of overwhelming emotions washed over me, and I couldn't help but let out a choked sob. Max's grip on my hand tightened, his own eyes glistening with tears of joy and relief.
The pain and fear of the past hours seemed to melt away in that instant, replaced by an indescribable sense of love and awe. My heart swelled as I reached out to gently touch my baby's soft cheek.
"It's a girl."
I barely registered the words. The nurse smiled warmly, encouraging me to hold my precious bundle for the first time. I couldn't help the small sob that escaped my lips as I took my baby girl into my arms.
