Early in the year 279 AC, a formal betrothal was made by the Mad King Aerys II to Princess Martell of Dorne, for the hand of their daughter, Princess Elia Nymeros Martell, to his own son, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, wanting to renew their bond with Dorne since the double marriage of King Daeron Targaryen II and Princess Daenerys Targaryen to Princess Myriah Martell and Prince Maron Martell respectively.

However, it wasn't until the first month of 280 AC that the marriage actually happened, in the Sept of Baelor, in King's Landing.

The ceremony was simple enough, due to the Faith being simple, but the celebrations were anything but simple, they were lavish, not only because they were for the Prince and his new bride, but also because the Dornish were not to be outdone by the ruling family.

Long after the Prince, aged one and twenty, and his wife, aged three adn twenty, had been taken to their chambers, Princess Aemma, aged six and ten, was spun around by many Lords and knights, such as Arthur Dayne, who had promised Prince Rhaegar that he would look after the Princess during the celebration, Prince Oberyn Martell, who spent the entire time they danced whispering in the Princess's ear and making her laugh, Lord Stannis Baratheon, who was her age and had nearby been her betrothed before his parents died two years prior.

Aemma even shared a dance or two with Lord Jaime Lannister, at the order of his father and sister, moving swiftly and gracefully through the dance floor, and when she had grown tired of dancing, she was dragged into the dancefloor by her lady-in-waiting and Elia's lady-in-waiting, Ashara Dayne, Arthur's younger sister.

Usually, they would've been scolded, but considering it was a day of celebration, they were not reprimanded.

However, as the hour of the ghost fell over the kingdom, every noble lady was dismissed from the celebration, especially as the lords and ladies that were attending the celebration had grown too drunk to be near the presence of the ladies.

Aemma and Cersei left the ballroom with their arms interlaced, giggling their way to Aemma's chambers, which were much closer than Cersei's, who despite being Aemma's lady-in-waiting, lived in the Tower of the Hand with her father.

Cersei had managed to grab a bottle of wine that was on one of the large tables, taking it with her as the two ladies left the room, a bottle of wine that the two took sips of, trying out the drink that so many adults consumed in large quantities. The beverage burned their throats and enhanced their senses, but also dulled the speed in which they reacted to things.

"I cannot believe that you danced with nearly every Lord at the celebration." Cersei told the Princess as she closed the door to the Princess's chambers, her emerald green eyes locked on the Princess's figure, acutely aware that her heart was racing.
