With the close of the year 280 AC, the year of the False Spring breezed across the Seven Kingdoms.
A Tourney at Harrenhal was planned at end of the year 280 AC, by Lord Walter When to celebrate his maiden daughter's name day. The tourney began exactly a year after it had been originally planned, in the 11th month of the year.
Many were present at the Tourney, besides the host, Lord Walter Whent and his children, including the maiden daughter.
The ruling family, King Aerys, whose declining health shocked many, and his wife, Queen Rhaella, their children Prince Rhaegar, Princess Aemma and Prince Viserys, along with Rhaegar's family, Princess Elia Martell, who was heavily pregnant at the time, and one-year-old Princess Rhaenys.
Members of the Kingsguard were also in attendance, such as Lord Commander Gerold Hightower, Ser Barristan Selmy, Ser Oswell Whent, Ser Jonothor Darry, Ser Arthur Dayne and Prince Lewyn Martell.
Lady Ashara Dayne and Lady Cersei Lannister were also in attendance as the Princesses to whom they were ladies-in-waiting were present.
Jaime Lannister, aged five and ten, attended the Tourney while his father did not, and was admitted into the order of the Kingsguard by King Aerys during the Tourney's opening ceremonies. And while he wanted to compete in the tourney the day after joining the Kingsguard, he was ordered by the King to return to King's Landing that night with the Queen and the young Prince.
Held that first night, within the Hall of a Hundred Hearths, was a great feast for Lords from throughout the Seven Kingdoms.
Prince Rhaegar sang many songs that he'd composed over the years, and made many ladies cry, including his wife and many other Ladies, like Lady Lyanna Stark, who after being teased by one of her older brothers, poured wine on his head.
Aemma and Cersei danced with each other, mainly, although some members of the Kingsguard, approached the two as well, just as Benjen Stark danced with Aemma while Arthur Dayne danced with Cersei. That was until Prince Oberyn Martell, Princess Elia's younger brother, approached the two and asked for a dance with the Princess.
His hand was, politely, on Aemma's waist as they danced, having the eyes of many on them, including the King's and the Prince's, but most intensely, Lady Cersei's.
"Your Lady-in-waiting has seldom taken her eyes off you, Aemma." Oberyn whispered to the Princess, who looked over her shoulder at Cersei, watching as her best friend clutched a goblet, of what Aemma knew to be wine in her hands.
"Cersei is only looking after me, Oberyn." Aemma replied after flashing Cersei a smile.
"Back in Dorne, if a man or a woman looks at you with that much emotion in their eyes, they surely want you in their bed," Oberyn replied, leaning into Aemma's ear and whispering while looking at Cersei, "As more than a mere bedwarmer."
