290 AC was a relatively calm year as Robert was finally able to pay off all of the damages that had been caused by the Rebellion. It was also the year in which Aemma gave birth to her fourthborn child, a girl that she named Alysanne, a girl that was just like her mother's mother, the late Queen Rhaella, with orchid coloured eyes and hair that seemed more golden than silver, and in which Lady Cersei gave birth to her second child, a girl named Myrcella, with Lannister golden locks and green eyes that looked like emeralds.
It was also the year in which Prince Oberyn Martell visited King's Landing for his niece's tenth name day.
Despite having her ravens monitored and her letters read, Aemma had sent a raven to Dorne after her coronation and wedding, informing them of Elia and Aegon's deaths and of Rhaenys's status as a ward of the Crown, of course Aemma had also apologized for not having been there to protect Elia and wrote her deepest condolences.
Oberyn had traveled to King's Landing alone, or rather mostly alone as he did have guards with him. Upon his arrival he'd been met by the Queen hugging him tightly, almost as if he were her own kin, which given the fact that their siblings had been wed, they were.
Robert hadn't been pleased with his wife's breaking of protocol at Oberyn's arrival, but when he saw her holding back tears as she parted from Oberyn, Robert knew that if he had tried to stop her, he would've surely gotten injured once more by his wife's hand.
"Gods be good Aemma, you are looking more regal each time I see you." Oberyn told Aemma once they parted and held each other at an arms length.
"And you look even more rugged than you did at Harrenhal, do tell me you're not out in the desert every hour of the day." Aemma replied with a bright smile on her lips.
Robert wasn't the only one who wasn't pleased with Oberyn's reunion with Aemma, Cersei spent the whole time that Oberyn was in Aemma's presence glaring at the man, wishing him unwell things.
Aemma turned around to look at her children, and quickly stepped next to Oberyn. "May I present to you my Lord Husband, our King, Robert Baratheon." Aemma introduced, motioning to her husband with her hand, only to have Oberyn bow his head in respect. Respect that every adult knew didn't run deep.
"And our children, Prince Edd, Prince Joffrey, Princess Jocelyn and our newest babe, Princess Alysanne."
Oberyn watched the children carefully, noting how only the eldest looked like his father, he'd heard about the children from letters that Aemma had sent him. He knew that Edd, the eldest Prince, was six years of age and that Joffrey and Jocelyn were four years of age and well Alysanne the babe. He bowed his head at them, keeping his manners polite even as he turned to his niece.
