ᴋɪɴɢꜱʀᴏᴀᴅWhen the Royal Family began preparations to return to King's Landing Bran Stark had not yet woken from his fall, and his mother had grown more desperate and worried, secluding herself in her son's chambers while sowing and praying.
It had been decided that Lord Eddard Stark would travel to King's Landing to fulfill his position as Hand of the King, with his two daughters with him, his eldest who was betrothed to the King's eldest son and child, and his youngest, whowas being taken so that her mother didn't have to worry about two young children while caring for a still unconscious other.
Jon Snow had decided to join his uncle Benjen and head to Castle Black where he would take the vows to become a member of the Night's Watch, which the Queen had not been pleased to hear about but knew she could do little to dissuade, while Lord Stark merely looked like he couldn't bare the thought of losing his son, even if in a way he'd done it to himself.
It wasn't until 8 days after their departure that the group stopped to stretch their legs. Robert and Ned sat at a small table in the shade while Aemma, Cersei and the Royal children along with Stark girls sat in the sun, enjoying the warm sun, despite the cold temperature.
"Gods! This is country!" Robert exclaimed to Ned as he turned away from the tree that he'd been peeing on, returning to the small table with food that had been set up for the two. "I've half a mind to leave them all behind and keep going." he added as he settled onto his chair.
"I've half a mind to go with you." Ned replied, glancing around at the many people surrounding him.
"What do you say? Just you and me on the Kingsroad, swords at our sides, a couple of tavern wenches to warm our beds tonight." Robert teased, although ned knew that the King wasn't actually just teasing, he was making an offer.
"You should've asked me four and ten years ago." Ned countered with a teasing smile, knowing that before meeting the mother of his firstborn son, he would've gone with Robert to every tavern in the Seven Kingdoms, but after meeting Ashara, and then being forced to marry Catelyn, Ned couldn't lay with anyone without feeling guilty.
Like he felt when he laid with Catelyn on their wedding night, even if he knew that he was merely doing his duty. And while his guilt had lessened, and he'd grown to love Catelyn dearly, a part of Ned would always feel guilty for not wedding Ashara the very night they met, or any night during the tourney.
