- Jordan's POV -
Almost every day I imagine what it would be like if I was born into a non-problematic world. In that sense I mean a world that was at peace and didn't have nuclear wars that lead to a colony orbiting Earth in space. A colony in which it is illegal to have more than one child, the youngest being imprisoned.
You see, I was born into a family of a mother and a father, meaning it was fine. But unfortunately, not only am I the first child, but I have a younger sister by about three years. And if there's a second child to a family, then the child is imprisoned and the mother is floated, meaning they're released into space from the airlock.

Having wanted to give my little sister a chance, and on owning how messed up the laws were on the Ark, I volunteered to go in her place. But for some odd reason, my mother wasn't floated. I believe it may be because she's an important figure here on the Ark, but I'm unsure. I see her every now and then, my dad too, when they come to talk to me. They have ever since I was little. My sister comes too, but usually by herself. Why... well I have no clue honestly.

I have a feeling that's all going to change though as there's two guards that have just walked into my cell.

"Prisoner 247, face the wall." One of them says, and I follow instructions, confused. "Extend your right arm behind your back."

"What? Why?" I question, turning to see him approaching with some sort of metal wristband with needles. "What is that?"

"Jordan, hey, hey." I hear an unmistakable voice, making me look to the other guard and see Bellamy Blake. He's a nice guard. "Hey, it's okay. This is to check your health, Jordan. I've got her, you can leave."

"But..." The other guard goes to argue but Bellamy cuts him off. "Leave."

The guard stares at Bellamy for a moment before turning and exiting the cell. Bellamy and I make eye contact again when he turns to face me. "Bell..." I mutter, afraid of what is coming next. "Look, it's going to pinch but it's not going to be bad, okay?" He says with an assuring look and tone, making me nod. I hold my arm up a bit so he can close it around my wrist. Wincing at the slight pain, I take a deep breath before exhaling. "Not too bad, right?"

"No." I answer, looking at him.

"See, that's what I told you." He gives a small smile. "Now, you're going to come with me, alright?"

"Bellamy, I'm not eighteen yet." I say, shaking my head. "I know, but we have to go, okay?" He questions and I nod before he begins leading me with a light hold of my arm and we find ourselves where the dropships are.

Seeing Chancellor Jaha waiting on us, I raise a brow.
"Jordan Griffin, you have been given an extraordinary task to go to the ground and see if earth is habitable again." He slowly tells me. "Yes, we know the risks and, yes, unfortunately it may lead quickly to your fate, but we must know."

I look at my Bellamy as I grow further confused but also frustrated.

"You're sending me to die?" I question. "I thought I couldn't be punished with death until I was eighteen?"

"This is not punishment, Jordan. It's a chance at further life."

"Further life of what? Our people going to earth and still being locked up, if not still executed for our crimes at eighteen?"

"If you live and earth is habitable, you will be free, Jordan. The earth has much more oxygen than we have here on the Ark so we won't have to worry about overpopulation. You can be with your family, Jordan." Jaha explains.

"How can I trust you?" I counter, eyeing him.

"Well from your perspective, I can see why it is difficult to trust me, but you just have to trust the process, as it is going to happen either way."
