- Third Person POV -
As Lexa and Jake stroll through the corridors of the tower, the dim light from the torches flickers against the ancient stone walls, mixing with the sunlight streaming through open doors here and there. The air is cool and carries the faint scent of burning wood, a comforting constant in the ever-changing world around them. Jake, small for his age but quick-witted, looks up at Lexa with wide eyes, hanging on every word she speaks. Today, Lexa is teaching him about the Nightbloods, the legacy they bear, and the weight of the responsibility that comes with it.

"Nightbloods have always been special, Jake." Lexa begins, her voice calm and steady as she guides him through the halls. "We are chosen for a reason, trained from a young age to lead, to protect. Our blood makes us unique, but it's our choices, our strength, that truly define us."

Jake's hand squeezes hers, his small fingers interlaced with her stronger, calloused ones. "Like you and mom?" He asks, his voice filled with admiration.

Lexa glances down at him, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Yes, like us. And like Anya, who taught me and your mother. We carry the past with us, and it guides our future. That's why it's important to learn from those who came before us, to honor their memories."

Jake's brows furrow as he keeps his gaze on hers. "How do you become Commander?"

Lexa's smile fades slightly as her thoughts fall to her Conclave. "There's a tournament of trained nightbloods that fight for the position. The last one standing is the successor of the throne." She explains softly.

Jake ponders this for a moment, his brow furrowing further in thought. "Will I have to do that?"

Lexa's expression softens, her gaze expressing uncertainty and worry. "If your mother and I decide that we'd like for you to train, there is a possibility, but I'm not able to answer that right now. It's a difficult decision. But that's what it means to be a leader, to be a Nightblood. To make the hard decisions."

They continue walking, the silence between them filled with understanding. Lexa is proud of how much Jake has grown since he's come into our lives. He is curious, eager to learn, and quick to grasp the complexities of the world around him, even at such a young age. It is moments like these, away from the burdens of leadership, that Lexa cherishes the most.

As they approach a new corridor, a pair of guards come into view, leading someone familiar through the hall. Abby Griffin walks between them, her expression a mixture of concern and determination. The sight of her makes Lexa pause, her hand still holding onto Jake's as they watch the scene unfold.

Jake's eyes widen as he recognizes Abby, and his grip on Lexa's hand tightens with excitement. "Lexa! It's Abby!" He exclaims, his voice filled with joy. Before Lexa can respond, he has already let go of her hand and is running toward Abby.

"Jake!" Abby smiles warmly as she kneels down to embrace him. "Oh, I've missed you so much." She hugs him tightly, her fingers running through his hair as if to reassure herself that he is truly there.

Lexa observes the reunion with a guarded expression, her eyes narrowing slightly as she approaches them. Though she is pleased to see Jake so happy, Abby's unexpected arrival stirs a deep sense of curiosity within her. Abby rarely ventures from the camp on her own, and Lexa's mind begins to sift through the potential reasons for this visit.

The guards look to Lexa for instruction, and with a subtle wave of her hand, she dismisses them. They nod respectfully and retreat down the corridor, leaving Lexa, Jake, and Abby alone.

"Abby." Lexa greets, her tone polite but measured, giving little away. "What brings you here?"

Abby straightens, though her hands remain on Jake's shoulders, grounding herself in his presence. "I need to speak with you, Lexa. And with Jordan. It's important." She says, her voice firm but not unkind.
