- Jordan's POV -
The journey back is somber, weighed down by the recent events and the growing tensions between our now broken alliances and loyalties. As Lexa and I enter the tower and begin heading to our quarters, the nightly silence of the halls is abruptly broken by the rapid sound of footsteps echoing off the stone walls.

Jake appears at the far end of the hall, his face holding a mix of relief and excitement as he spots us. He breaks into a run, his small frame moving as fast as his legs can carry him, and his voice rings out, full of tired but unrestrained joy.

"Lexa, Mom!" He calls out, his voice filled with a sense of urgency and deep concern. "You're back. I was so worried..."

We pause, our gaze falling on Jake. As the boy reaches us, his eyes wide with a mix of admiration and relief, I watch as something within Lexa softens as she's knocked back by him hugging her tightly, burying his face against her side.

"We're safe, Jake." She says, her voice softening as she returns the embrace. There is a warmth in her tone that she has rarely showed the past few days as we've shared our moments. She places a hand gently on the back of his head, a small, comforting gesture as she looks to me. "We're both unharmed."

I give a small nod as I observe them in content. I didn't expect this, well neither of us did but they have developed a bond that has quickly grown and I love that for both of them, especially that he can't necessarily sense the issues between us right now.

As Jake pulls back from the embrace, his eyes still filled with a mixture of relief and lingering concern, he hesitates for a moment before speaking. His voice, small and unsure, stumbles over his words as he looks up at Lexa.

"I was on the balcony with Mom when we saw the bright flash from the mountain and then the next morning she left to help you, Nomo-" He starts, fidgeting with his hands but quickly corrects himself. "To help you, Lexa."

I realize he's just called her mom as well, and I observe the exchange anxiously.

Lexa's eyes widen slightly at his slip, but rather than correcting him, I watch as she crouches down to meet his gaze. A faint smile tugs at the corners of her mouth, and she gently places a hand on his shoulder. "It's alright, Jake." She says softly, her tone reassuring. "You can call me that if you want."

Jake's face flushes with embarrassment, but he seems to relax at her acceptance. His grip on her hand tightens slightly as if seeking further reassurance that his slip isn't something to be ashamed of.

I  feel a strange mixture of emotions well up inside me. I hadn't expected to hear him call Lexa that—especially not in Trigedasleng.

Lexa glances at me, her eyes softening as our gazes meet. There is no need for words between us; the moment is too delicate, and a great step from where we were today and prior. Lexa's gaze communicates everything—compassion for my... well I suppose our  son, and a quiet acknowledgment of the unique bond we all share.

"It's okay." Lexa repeats, more for my sake now I believe than for Jake's. Her voice is steady, offering a kind of reassurance.

I manage a nod, though the emotion still tightens my chest. I step closer to them, placing a gentle hand on Jake's back as I try to find my voice. "We're all here. That's what matters."

Jake looks between us, his expression softening as most of the tension in the room dissipates. With a small, contented smile, he leans into Lexa again, the earlier embarrassment forgotten.

Lexa glances up at me, her expression one of silent agreement. The moment had been unexpected, but it has brought us closer in a way that words cannot quite capture. For a brief instant, the weight of leadership, the burdens of war, and the complexities of our relationship fades into the background, replaced by something far simpler and more profound as we focus on Jake.
