It's now been a couple of months since I've come to Polis and began my training. It's going very well, I've already proven myself a challenge to some of Lexa's more trained warriors including her second, Indra. I believe she's very impressed by that, and it makes me happy to believe so.
I've just finished a drawing when the door to my bedroom opens slightly.
"Jordan, Heda has requested to see you and requests to enter your room." Kilo announces.
"Oh, uhm..." I say, grabbing my sketchbook and sliding it and the charcoal beneath the bed and standing up. "Of course she may enter."
"Heda." He motions, stepping aside as he opens the door further.
She enters the room with her usual confident walk and her gaze softens when her eyes land on mine.
"You're welcome to enter whenever you need without request, Heda. As it is your tower." I tell her after bowing.
"It may be my tower, but you deserve your privacy." She states. "So I shall continue to request."
"If you'd like." I give an understanding nod. "Do you mind me asking why you requested to see me?"
"Well, I've been thinking that you've opened up to me more than I expected you would. I suppose it's from where I made it easy enough for you to build trust in me, but I did it in a way that left many details of my life private. I feel that is unfair to you as you've shared so much about your childhood and your life on the Ark. It's only fair that I share some things about myself as well." She explains. "That is if you'd like me to."
"Of course I would. You shouldn't have to feel obligated, but you're more than welcome to share." I tell her. "Take a seat."
We sit on the edge of my bed and we make eye contact for a moment before we both look away. I look towards the wall and she looks down at her hands that are resting on her lap.
"I was born of Trikru, or the Woods Clan is how your people would call it I suppose. Most children of not only Trikru but all of the coalition begin their warrior training at the age of two. Due to my nightblood, my parents brought me here to Polis to prepare for my possible position as a successor to the Commander. Titus, as you know, is a Flamekeeper, but he has also been my mentor since I was a child." She begins and I look back at her. "You also already know Anya served as another one of my mentors, trainers and I also served as her second, but I haven't told you of the Conclave."
"What exactly happened during the conclave?" I question curiously.
"There were nine of us in the conclave including myself. It's a tournament held where nightbloods fight for ascension as Commander. I killed six of the eight of us, as one killed their own brother before running from the conclave, ultimately leaving me as the only successor."
I straighten my posture slightly, readjusting as I take this information in.
"Anya explained some of this to me, and I don't know why it's so difficult for me to comprehend that this is how you all choose your leaders." I admit. "How do you choose your leader on the Ark?" She raises a brow of curiosity. "The Chancellor is elected by the council and the people by a vote."
"We all have our ways, but down here it is better for our survival." She states and I nod.
"Could I ask you another question related to the conclave?" I ask her curiously.
"Go ahead." She nods.
"Are you... besides for my own defense... making me train in caution and preparation of your death and an event of a conclave?" I question hesitantly.
