I Know, You Know, That I'm Not Telling The Truth

"Hey Uncle Henry, it's Elliot, Billy's kid." I heard Elliot say into the phone, the smile on his face was saying a lot. "I'm going to be in Santa Barbara for a couple weeks and was wondering if I could stop by?"

Elliot seemed happy to talk to him. He'd really missed his family and I'm glad he's reconnecting. He deserves it.

"Me and my wife's family are traveling by RV up the coast, we're about 30 minutes from Santa Barbara. Yeah I got married almost a year ago now." I'd never seen him happier than when he got to see his family. "Are you sure? Okay yeah that's great, same house right? Okay see you soon."

"So?" I asked as everyone in the back looked up front at us curious.

"We're parking in front of his house, and he's making dinner. He's going to call Shawn so everyone on best behavior." He said momentarily glaring back at them.

"So uh, what am I?" Jenna asked not sure what her cover would be since we were all technically family.

"I have four daughters." Nate answered smiling. "I might as well adopt you too."

"You're getting soft old man." I teased tossing one of forests toys at him.

"It's not the worst thing." Nate caught it smiling as Sophie leaned her head on him. It was nice, we were all actually happy now.

It wasn't long until we got to his uncles house, it was right across from the ocean which was nice. Just enough room for Lucille mark IV. We came out to see Henry waiting at the door as we all filed out.

"Alright introductions, this is my uncle Henry." Elliot stood smiling as he directed his hands. "And this is my wife Carter, her parents, Nate and Sophie, her sisters, Parker, Jenna, and Forest, and our brother in law Alec."

"It's nice to meet you all. I see why you traveled by RV. Come on inside. Everything is set up in the yard. Shawn's on his way." Henry shook our hands with a smile before leading us through the house.

It was a small yard that looked over a pedestrian road separating it from the beach. It had a nice old tree for shade at the end, it was beautiful. This was the kind of place I thought about retiring to.

"So what do you do for work now? I'm guessing by the hair your military days are long behind you." Henry questioned opening the grill as Elliot joined him.

"We run a consulting firm. Basically we go after rich douche bags who take advantage of the little guy. Dad and I are lawyers, Alec and Jenna do computer stuff, Sophie and Parker do basically PI work." I explained as Elliot smiled at me. "Elliot keeps us from dying."

"Never would've thought you and I would be in the same line of work cuz." A scruffy looking guy announced before hugging Elliot, which told me it must be Shawn. "And who might you be?"

Shawn looked at me with a coy smile. He was cute, but definitely trouble. His attention being on me made me nervous.

"That's Elliot's wife." Henry answered glaring at Shawn only making me more concerned.

"You're married?" He asked with a genuinely shocked look turning to face his cousin.

"Almost a year now." I answered for him holding up my ring.

"Is that aunt Gloria's ring?" Shawn asked grabbing my hand looking it over. I watched as his eyes traveled up my arm settling on the scaring from my IV that hadn't faded yet.

"Nothing slips past Shawn." Elliot looked at us with a chuckle. He didn't seem the least bit worried, but I knew he'd figure out we were hiding something.

"Anyone want a beer? Foods almost done." Henry asked pointing to a cooler sitting right off of the porch.

"I'd love one but unfortunately I'm unwillingly sober for the next few months." I joked not remembering they didn't know until Shawn turned his head.
