I Fear I'll Love So Much You'll Slip Away

"Kara can I have a word with you?" I heard Lassiter ask I looked up from Elliot's shoulder.

"Yeah Lassie, you can talk to me here, he's out cold." I smiled as he sat down in the chair next to the bed.

"I ran you through the system, you're a cop." Lassiter confronted me as he looked up. "An Interpol agent none the less. Married to Shawn's cousin, a US marshal."

"Shawn and I, he's my best friend, I had to lie. I didn't have a choice." I quietly stuttered as Lassiter shook his head.

"So Shawn was really that invested in kids that aren't his? Because that wasn't an act. He talked about them constantly." Lassies voice was curious as he spoke.

"Shawn's a good guy Lassiter, and a good psychic." I looked back to Elliot still speaking quietly. "And he's a damn good cop."

"What about you? You almost had me believing in it." He smiled shaking his head.

"I didn't fake any of it, just because I'm a cop, doesn't mean I don't still have a gift. I'm going to stay in Santa Barbara, keep working with Shawn." I smiled as he sighed at me.

"He kept saying he was sorry over and over in the ambulance." Lassiter informed nodding to Elliot.

"We have a lot to work through." I sighed looking over to Elliot asleep next to me.

"Juliet and I have your back, I still better get uncle privileges." He insisted smiling at me seemingly more okay with everything than I expected.

"Of course, you're stuck with me Lassie." I teased as he went to get up. I never expected him to be found family. "We're friends now like it or not."

"Carter Ford Spencer, can I call you Ford? It sounds like I'm gonna be dealing with a lot of you Spencer's now." He joked looked from me to Elliot with a smile.

"Carter is fine, Ford will always be my dad, thank you, for everything lassie. I owe you." I smiled as Elliot started to wake up.

"Just keep Shawn on the straight and narrow for me." He playfully demanded as Elliot looked over concerned.

"Everything okay?" He asked groggily looking between us.

"Yeah darling, this is Lassiter, I work with him at the station." I explained as Elliot held out his hand.

"It's nice to officially meet you." Lassiter gave me a little smile shaking his hand.

"Kara told me about what she's been doing here, you'll have to forgive me, I'm missing some chunks of memory." Elliots words got a "we'll talk later" face from lassie. He was like a protective big brother with both me and Juliet.

"I have to go file some reports but I'll be around if you need anything Carter." Lassie half smiled excusing himself leaving me and Elliot alone again.

I hadn't left his side in four days out of sheer guilt. Shawn and Parker bring me food and whatever else I need. Sophie and dad have been hovering but I don't mind it. They're all doing their best to help. I've slowly been filling Elliot in on everything that's happened. The guilt he's feeling is horrendous. But we have to work through it, because even if he doesn't remember, I do.

"You're wearing moms ring?" Elliot asked finally noticing my hand.

"Shawn brought it for me while you were asleep." I answered looking down at my hand.

"You should've left me for him."
He nudged me only half joking I think. I still question if I should've as awful as it is.

"Nah, we tried to have sex in the car and it was just not gonna happen." I joked as he looked at me funny. "Nothing happened, we just needed to prove to ourselves that we were always only friends."
