Atharva's family was ready to leave, but Ruhi's grandpa insisted they stay. His words were laced with genuine affection and a hint of urgency. He even promised that if they stayed, he'd call the priest the next day to fix the date for the wedding.
Atharva was ready to stay, intrigued by the prospect, while Ruhi remained silent, her emotions carefully concealed. However, Atharva couldn't help but notice her every subtle movement, her quiet demeanor speaking volumes.
As the evening progressed, all the women busied themselves in the kitchen, preparing dinner. Ruhi, though, kept to the side, helping just a little, but mostly chatting with Myra, who was showering her with affectionate words and attention.
When dinner was finally ready, everyone gathered at the dining table. Ruhi's mother, noticing her daughter standing silently by the door, spoke up with concern.
"What happened, Ruhi beta? Come sit with us and have dinner."
Ruhi shook her head, her voice soft but firm. "No Maa, I had lunch late at the office, so I'm not hungry."
With that, she turned and headed to her room, leaving everyone at the table glancing at one another. Atharva, too, noticed her departure and felt a pang of guilt, wondering if something he had said might have upset her.
Ruhi's mother sighed, shaking her head gently. "This is her daily routine. She hardly ever eats dinner."
Atharva couldn't shake the feeling that his words had hurt her, and the thought nagged at him throughout the meal. After dinner, everyone retired to their rooms, but Atharva found himself lingering near Ruhi's door, his hand poised to knock.
Just as he was about to, a voice from behind startled him. "Bhaiya, what are you doing here?"
He turned to see his sister, her eyes narrowing suspiciously as she looked at him.
He quickly shook his head, trying to mask his true intentions. "Nothing. I was just checking if you guys were comfortable."
His sister suppressed the urge to tease him, knowing well her brother's temper, and instead, she nodded, letting him off the hook.
Atharva then headed to his room, joining Aditya for the night. But sleep didn't come easily, his thoughts repeatedly drifting back to Ruhi.
