The harsh sound of the alarm pierced through the silence of the early morning, jolting Atharva awake.
He stirred, feeling something unusually soft beneath him. Slowly, as his drowsiness faded, he realized he was resting his head on something warm. He blinked his eyes open and found himself lying on Ruhi's belly.
His gaze traveled up to Ruhi’s face, and he froze. The same face that had looked so beautiful last night was now marked by the aftermath of a difficult evening.
Dark circles framed her eyes, her complexion was pale, and there were tear stains on her cheeks. A pang of guilt hit him square in the chest, but he quickly shoved it aside.
Just as regret started to settle in, his phone rang loudly, breaking the moment. It was Aditya. With a frustrated sigh, he carefully extricated himself from the bed and stepped out onto the balcony to take the call.
When he returned, he was once again consumed by anger. The call had stirred up emotions he had barely managed to push down. But as his eyes landed on Ruhi's sleeping form, the fury that had built up within him suddenly evaporated.
She looked so fragile, so innocent, that it twisted something deep inside him. How could he be angry with her?
He moved closer, his hand reaching out almost on its own to caress her cheek. The softness of her skin beneath his fingers was like a balm to his chaotic thoughts. But as his hand touched her, Ruhi stirred slightly, her lips parting as she murmured in her sleep,
"V...Vikram..."
Atharva's hand snapped back as if he'd been burned. His eyes darkened with a mixture of anger and jealousy. Without thinking, he grabbed Ruhi's wrist with a harsh grip, pulling her up roughly.
Ruhi awoke with a gasp, pain shooting through her wrist where his fingers were digging in. She blinked rapidly, disoriented, until her gaze focused on Atharva, who was glaring down at her with rage-filled eyes.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she struggled to breathe, feeling suffocated by his presence.
" Don't take his name, ever again, Understood?" he hissed through clenched teeth.
