Slowly I begin to realize that I come to mind. My heart is beating hard in my chest, and each pump hurts. I open up my eyes to see two big bullet holes staring at me really close. As a reflect I sit up and reach for my knife, but it's not on my black pants anymore. The boy who was watching me recoils and falls, then he crawls to the wall. He looks anxiously at my hands, which are highlighted in white.
"W-Wait! I.. I'm human, just like you!" He screams as he does his best not to cry out of fear. Slowly, my hand goes out and I'm going to lie back more reassured. I remember again that I was wounded, and a fierce pang shoots through my back, that makes me groan. "You should take it easy, the knife I threw got deeper than I thought." He says, not realizing that he has just announced that he has made an assassination attempt on me.
"That was you?"
"N-No..." He's just as bad at lying as he is brave. "But.. You looked like a zombie?" I'm confused. If he threw a knife at me, who were the zombies? Why did he look like a zombie? "Hehe yeah.. I'm a scout, we face paint ourselves as a zombie to get information." We? There are more?
Another thought shoots through my mind. Where's Laura?? Is she alright?? Oh my god, Laura may be dead by now! Maybe they killed her!"W-where's Laura?" I tried to say it louder but the pain seems to influence my voice. He looks at me ignorant. "Who?" "The other girl, with the green lighted hands.." I say. "Oh .. That one .. She did not survive."What? Didn't survive? They have killed her! She did nothing wrong, she didn't deserve that! I should have been the one who died! Hate takes over my body, I can not control my powers anymore. A ball of light shoots from my hand just above the head of the boy, who dives and gives a high scream. "K-kidding!" he says quickly, lying on the ground with his hands on his head. A big hole has formed in the tent we are in.
Two girls walk in. They look familiar, but it is dark and my picture is blurred. "Hello little monster." That voice.. I recognize it. It's my sister! "Mandy!" I yell out of happiness because she's alive. Tears fill up my eyes as she smiles at me. She walks up to me and embraced me, for the first time in years. Normally we never embrace eachother, even though we're sisters. But it feels great, even though it hurts my back.
The other girl waits until Mandy lets go, and than embraces me too. It's Mariëlle, the best friend of my sister. She's like a sister to me. "I-I thought you were dead..." I say with tears in my eyes. "And we thought you were." Mandy looks at me with a soft smile on her face, probably because she is happy that I am still alive. Even though we usually hate each other.
A soft voice is heard in the back. "I.. I'll be going again..." The boy sneaks away, but is stopped by Marielle. "What were you doing here anyway, Scout 31?" She asks. But the boy does not response. "Ah, never mind. Just go." She nods to the boy, who does not let it say twice. He runs off.
"Where's Laura?" I ask, feeling better than before now that I know my 'sisters' are alive. "In the tent opposite. She's been conscious for a while, I can get her here if you like?" Mandy say's. I nod, making her walk away to get my best friend.
Mariëlle starts singing. Her voice sounds like free angels who for the first time stand barefoot on grass. I enjoy her singing, I always did. She sang for me when I was little, when I was not feeling well, if I was scared and because I love it.
About a minute later, a girl walked in with difficulty. "Laura!" I yell, and I trie to stand up, but fall back again. Her shoulder is bandaged and her arm is held up by a white band. The four of us sit on the two mattresses that are here in the tent. Laura and I on one and Marielle and Mandy on the other.
"How did you survive anyway?" I stare at Mandy. "Well, I was just walking from one of the buildings to the other," Our school consists of two buildings. "when the alarm started ringing. I took my bike and started cycling towards Mariëlles' home. I arrived there, without any problems. And then-"
"Masters, there are zombies seen near our camp. They're coming our way." An adult man stands in the opening of the tent. "Okay, let the snipers be ready to take them down, Berserker 26." Mariëlle says. The man nods and walks away.
"Masters?" I ask curious. It looks like they need to think about how to explain it."We were one of the first to arrive here." Mandy looks at Marielle. "We really helped here and won their trust, allowing them gave us the title as leader." She adds.
"And what's with the names around here?" Laura looks questioningly at the two girls. Berserker 26, Scout 31...? "We all have special ranks here. Everyone is divided into groups where they fit best. Thus we have Chemists, Scouts, Berserkers and more."
Well, we're allive. And we are secure in a well-organized camp... But how long can this place keep standing? Every seccond there are more and more zombies...
