Aadhira
"Rani sa, Is the dessert ready? Everyone is waiting at the dining table and hukum sa will arrive in five minutes" one of the maid asked, her head respectively bowed. I glanced at the boiling kheer and turned off the gas.
"I think it's ready. Let me taste it" I replied, reaching for a spoon to taste the kheer which I had attempted for the first time in my life with the help of YouTube. However, the maid intervened.
"Rani sa, you should not taste it before hukum sa does. Let me help you serve it into the bowls" she said with a smile and started to serve the kheer into the bowl skillfully without any clumsiness unlike me and then tidy up the messy table with other maids which I had created.
They woke me up at 4 am and spent two hours adorning me with this heavy red saree and heavy jwellery, which feels suffocating. All I want is to get rid myself of these saree and jwellery as soon as possible. The reception took place last night at a prestigious hotel owned by the royals especially that Digvijay. So many politicians, members of royal families, high society individuals graced the event. I had assumed that once the reception concluded, I could shed this heavy attire and jewelry, but I was mistaken. I sighed as I watched the maids leaving the kitchen, carrying the sweet dish I had prepared.
Neither I have cooked anything before in my life nor my papa let me to. He always used to say, 'bacha, you don't have to learn cooking and tire yourself. I will find you a husband who would cook and feed you'. I smiled recalling his words.
Life is sure unpredictable.....
The sound of my heavy anklet and bangles echoed through the silent dining hall as I came out of the kitchen. The royal family had already taken their seats, but they had yet to begin their breakfast. The so called Maharaj didn't bother to introduce me to his family members, leaving me unsure of their relationship with him and how to address them.
Among them I only recognised the two middle aged couples whom I had took blessings from after the wedding. Politely, I greeted them with a 'Good morning' before taking my seat beside the head chair as I already came to know from the head maid who had informed me that the head chair belongs to their hukum sa, the seat to his right, belongs to the queen, and the one to his left, belongs to Rajmata whom I had yet to notice since my arrival at the palace. Everyone greeted me politely. But one person's over enthusiastic greeting and his toothy grin caught my attention. He appeared to be a young and a charming man likely in his early twenties I guess.
Soon enough he came dressed in a black three piece suit. Everyone greeted him as he took the head chair. I didn't even spare him a glance at him let alone offer a greeting. Despite sensing his burning gaze, I remained impassive, focusing instead on the array of dishes spread across the table, enough to feed an entire village.
"Good Morning, Rani sa" he greeted me when he noticed my lack of acknowledgement. I sighed, reluctantly turning my attention towards him.
"With your presence how can it be a good morning for me?" I muttered under my breath, making sure only he could hear me.
His expression hardened upon hearing my words, but I paid little attention to his reactionm. After giving him a mocking smile, I turned my gaze away from him. Despite my disdain, I maintained the facade of politeness towards him out of respect for the elders present. It wasn't how my parents raised me to behave but their involvement in my current state can't be ignored. If only these people had intervened and confronted him, perhaps I wouldn't be in this state. However, observing their fearful expressions towards him, it was evident how much influence he wielded over them.
