Arohi

"What the hell just happened? Did Gamandi give me his shirt? *sniff* It smells like him."

"What am I thinking, Pagli?" I give myself a little smack and walk inside. Shit, Pragya di notices me.

"Aaru, where did you go?" Pragya approaches me, and I smile nervously.

"Actually, Pragya di, I went outside, and I fell. My T-shirt tore, so someone gave me this shirt," I explain. She frowns, clearly doubting my excuse.

"That's fine, but what were you doing outside so late?" she asks, her expression a mix of concern and suspicion.

"I just went out for some fresh air," I lie, smiling at her. "Come on, go to sleep. It's really late. By the way, where did Kajol go?" I leap in front of di.

"Where did Kajol go?" I ask as Pragya di turns off the lights, and we walk towards our room.

"She has a night shift, so she must be at the office." Night shift? My intuition tells me something else. Could what that cockroach said be true?

"No, I should trust my sister, not a stranger," I think to myself.

"Yeh interview dene ke chakkar mein, mera khopdi phati ja rahi hai," I mutter as I prepare my bag.

"Acha maa, mein chalti hu haan. Baba ko tension na leneko boldena," I wave goodbye to my mother, who is busy cutting vegetables, and head out to my scooter.

As I drive away, humming a favourite tune, I feel like the main character of my own story. The wind in my hair and the open road ahead make me feel invincible.

Suddenly, I hit a pothole. "Ouch!" I exclaim as I land in the mud. The jerks have ruined my entire outfit.

"Aakh nahi hai kya? Swar ki sakhal wale kutte!" I shout, rubbing my elbows, which hurt badly.

"Aakh yeh log apne ghutno peh rakhe chalte hai kya, bloody gadhero," I murmur to myself, trying to dust off the mud But what can I do? I'll have to go home and change again.

Just then, a man approaches me. He kneels down and examines my wound. "Itna ghera chot," he says, gently stroking my injured arm.

"No, it's fine," I reply, smiling at him. Then I realize I recognize his face.

"Do I know you?" I ask, just as he says, "Mein apko janti hu?" We both chuckle at the simultaneous question.

"Oh, I remember. You're the girl from the hospital," he says, trying to recall.

"Sorry, I do not remember," I admit. He smiles and helps me to my feet.

"No, don't be sorry. Uss time par app bohut rush mein thi toh appko yaad nahi hai shayad," he says, and I nod.

"By the way, I am Mayank," he introduces himself, extending his hand. I look at my own dusty hands and smile.

"No problem," he mumbles, noticing my hesitation.

"I am Arohi," I introduce myself. He smiles, and I can't help but notice how handsome he is. He seems to be a doctor.

"Are you a doctor, by the way?" I ask, pointing at the nameplate on his coat.

"Oh, haan, I am a physician," he replies, and I nod with an 'O.'

"Acha toh mein chalti hu haan," I say, getting back on my scooter. Thank God he came at the right time to help me.
