Cassie's pov
I was walking out of the police station when I ran into Miss Smith. She looked hopeful as she approached me. "Did you talk to him, Cassie?" she asked. "Did he tell you the truth?"
I nodded. "I'm glad," she said, a look of relief on her face.
"I knew in my heart that my son wouldn't ever do such a wicked thing without having an explanation. Now that you've listened to him, I hope you and your family will reconsider and set my son free. Please, he's been through so much - the constant bullying in high school, fighting depression at such a young age," she said. "Please don't let him go to jail. I'm begging you."
I nodded and told her I needed some time to think about everything. She understood and gave me a small smile. I appreciated her understanding.
I went home and my dad was worried. He asked me where I had been and I told him I had gone to see someone. He told me he was worried about me, and I told him I was fine and went to my room.
"My brother came into my room and told me he told Noah everything that happened," he said. "He'll be coming back to the States."
"I don't want to see him, I said .
"You can't blame Noah for what happened to me. It wasn't his fault my brother said. "You were the one who ran off and fell into the arms of that idiot. Noah was really hurt when he heard what happened to you .He quit his job in Australia and would be here tomorrow".
"He loves you," my brother continued . "He wants to make things right with you. I'm sure Noah will accept you, and if you decide to keep the child, he'll act like the child's father."
I looked at him in confusion. "Are you going to make Noah marry me?" I asked him and he smiled. it was his idea. He wants to make everything better with you."
"I never asked him to do that," I said. "I don't need him to take pity on me. I don't need him in my life."
"Don't say that cass ," my brother said. "Marrying Noah is the best thing for you right now".
" I already no", I said firmly.
He sighed. "You are being stubborn but I hope you change your mind about this."
I felt his kiss on my head as he left the room. I went to the mirror and looked at my reflection, my eyes falling on my belly. I thought about what Miss Smith had said earlier, about how Xander had endured so much bullying in school, about how he had been hated. And I understood why he had wanted to change things about himself in college.
I hated that I had abandoned him. I hated that he had been corrupted by his so-called friends. I knew that Xander was a good person at heart. That was why I had gotten close to him in the first place - to show everyone that they were wrong about him. I made up my mind about what I wanted to do next.
It was the best thing for me, Xander, and my unborn child, I thought. I tossed and turned all night, but by six in the morning, I decided to shower and leave. I had a lot I needed to do today, and I didn't want my dad, my mom, or my brother to stop me. I knew I had to do this alone.
I got dressed and headed out the door.
I went to the police station and told them I wanted to withdraw my complaints against Xander. The officer asked me if I was sure about my decision, and I said yes, signing the release form.
Soon, Xander came into view. His eyes were teary as he looked at me. "Thank you," he choked out.
"I didn't do it for you. I did it for your mom and your child. But I also want you to do something for me."
