Xander's pov
I was currently staring at the marriage certificate in my hand. The words "Xander Smith and Cassie James" were written in bold, clear letters, but they still seemed so unreal. I couldn't believe that we had gotten married today.
"Okay, I've finished setting up the room for Cassie," my mom said, walking up to me. I had asked her to help me prepare a separate room for Cassie, who had gone to talk to her family and get a few things from their house.
I want her to feel comfortable here, I understand that she doesn't want me to have any expectations from this union, and I respect her wishes. Thanks mom I said softly.
"What are you looking at?" she asked. I held up the wedding certificate. "You know, this was all I dreamed of during my teenage years," I said. "And now that it's happening, I don't know how to feel. Mom, I wish it were under different circumstances."My mom sighed.
"Dear, everything is going to be fine," my mom said, smiling at me. "I'm just glad Cassie reconsidered sending you to jail. She's such a sweet soul."
"Yeah, I'm glad too," I said. "I'm glad this didn't get out to the public. It would have been a nightmare and I don't know how I would have handled it."
"I've talked to some people at the office, and no one knows about the arrest," I said. "I'm so grateful for that. I don't know what I would have done if this had affected the company."
My mom smiled. "I'll be leaving now be sure to say hello to Cassie for me when she gets here," she said.
She kissed my cheek and left, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I wondered how things would be, now that Cassie was living here and we were married I sat down and remembered how we ended up being married.
"First shave your face," she said, and I nodded. "And I want you to meet me at this address in two hours." She paused and looked at me, a serious expression on her face. "We're getting married, Xander."She said and I was stunned.
"Marriage?" I said, still in shock. "Is that really what you want?"
"Of course, don't you want to?" she asked
"No of course not if that's what you want I don't mind" I said "but what about your family do they agree with this"
"They don't know, and I'm not sure they'll accept this," she said. "But I really want to do this, Xander."
"But understand that this is a marriage of convenience," I said. "And You understand that I don't owe you anything as a wife." She said and I nodded.
"May I ask why you decided on this?" I asked.
She sighed and looked down at her hands. "I thought about everything," she said. "And I also thought about all you went through in high school, and how you tried so hard to erase that from your life in college. And then you got mixed up with the wrong people."She said and I listened .
"I thought about how wicked the world still is," she said. "And I want to protect my unborn child from all that. I would hate for my child to go through bullying because his father is in prison and wasn't conceived through love."
"I want my child to grow up in a complete family," she said. "I want to save my child from bullies and heartbreak. That was the sole reason I decided on this, for my child's sake."
She looked at me, her eyes shining with tears. "I understand," I said. "And I will make sure our child grows up in a good and loving environment. I promise to protect you both with my life."
