Chapter thirty seven

Cassie's pov

The place we arrived at was a creepy, deserted house on the outskirts of town. Mia parked the car behind some bushes, and we snuck around the building. Mia told Kelly to stay outside with me, and she would go inside to see if Xander was there. If we felt anything suspicious, we were to run away and call the police. Then she went inside.

I stood outside with Kelly, feeling nervous and scared.

After what seemed like ages, she didn't come out. Kelly grew nervous. "We should call the police, Cassie," she said. "I don't feel safe here."

Just then, I heard a groan, like someone in pain. I think it might be Xander, and I ran toward the sound without thinking. Kelly called after me, but I didn't listen.

I froze when I saw Xander. He was being tortured by that  Shawn.

I couldn't believe I had found my husband. I wanted to stop Shawn, but it seemed too dangerous to do so. I texted Kelly to call the cops and tell them that Xander was indeed here. Suddenly, Shawn left and locked the door behind him.

I squeezed through a small window to get inside the building. When I saw Xander, I touched his face. He looked shocked to see me.

"Cassie," he said softly. I nodded and hugged him, so relieved to see him. "Thank God you're alive," I said, tears streaming down my face. He hissed in pain as I hugged him. I looked at his body and saw he was covered in injuries. "What did those bastards do to you?" I asked him. "Babe, get out of here and call the police," he said.

"No," I said stubbornly, "I'm not leaving you."

I freed his hands, and then he hugged me again. I couldn't believe he was alive. Thank you God.

Just then, we heard them yelling at Mia. They asked her why she was there. They threatened her, but Ryan said she was his friend and yelled at her about how she knew about the place. We didn't hear anything else for a while. Then I felt a sickening sense that they were coming to check on Xander. We tried to escape through the window, but we were stopped by a gun.

"Move, Smith and your wife dies ," Shawn said, pointing a gun at me. We raised our hands and begged him to calm down. I was terrified - I had never had a gun pointed at me before. I hid behind Xander, and he put his arms around me, protecting me.

"Oh, isn't this nice?" Shawn said, sneering. "Your rape victim coming to your rescue. Must be great." He grabbed me and dragged me toward him. I screamed in fear.

. "Now listen to me, Smith," Shawn said, his voice shaking. "Transfer twenty million dollars to the account I gave you, or I'll blow this bitch's brains out." Xander nodded and asked for a laptop. Shawn gave him one, and Xander took it. Before he could do anything, the police arrived. I felt a sense of relief. I could see that Shawn was nervous. "No!" he yelled.

He kept on pointing the gun at me . "don't do anything funny, or I'll shoot."He said to me. He told Xander to still transfer the money. The police burst in, and gunshots went off. Shawn panicked. He grabbed my hair and dragged me. I screamed.

"Stop hurting her!" Xander yelled. He grabbed me and dragged me out. "Follow me," Shawn said. "Or I'll kill her.

We followed him as he led us out. Xander asked him to let me go, but Shawn refused. He forced me into the car. I was about to get in when my brother attacked him from behind and took his gun. Now, he was helpless. I ran to Xander and held him. He was weak and bleeding. The police came and handcuffed Shawn.

Ryan tried to escape, and when he attacked Mia, the police shot him. He died on the spot. The other guy was arrested. Mia was slightly injured, but she was going to be okay. I was glad that everything was finally coming to an end. The police took Xander to  give his statement, and I refused to leave his side even when he was taken to the hospital.

Xander was bruised all over, and he had a bullet wound. It was hard to see him in so much pain, but I was so relieved that he was alive.

I was allowed to stay with him in the recovery room, and he told me all that had happened to him. I felt terrible that he had gone through so much. I told him I was pregnant, and he was so happy. I cried, thinking about how he hadn't been there when I found out, but he promised he would be by my side from now on.

He was angry that I had come to such a dangerous place while I was pregnant, but I told him I had been going crazy without him. I told him I loved him so much and that he shouldn't leave me again. I held him tightly. Then, his mother burst into the room. "Oh my God, my son!" she said, running to him. Her boyfriend was with her.

She was also going crazy this past few week without Xander too and her boyfriend also tried helping to find him but had no luck too. She hugged him and refused to leave him. "Mom you are choking me" Xander complained and then she stopped ,she was crying,

"my son, I thought I lost you "Stella said and cried.

"I'm okay, Mom," he said. She nodded, but she was still crying. She was so grateful to have him back. "Thank you, Cassie, Thank you for bringing my son back to me," she said to me, and I smiled. I was so happy to have him home too.
