Chapter thirty eight

Xander's pov

My mom and Cassie wouldn't leave my side. They were both worried that I would disappear again, but I knew I was safe now. I was with Cassie in the hospital when Mia came into my room. She had a bandage on her arm, and I was told that Ryan had almost shot her and the billet grazed her arm.

"Hey," she said, coming over to my bed. "How are you feeling?"

"Weak, but I'm glad to be back home with my family," I said. " Mia thank you, I really appreciate what you did for me even after I cut ties with you".

She smiled. "It's okay, Xander," she said. "I know you would've done the same for me."" I am your best friend that was my duty ".

Then Cassie fake-coughed, and we all laughed. "Okay, okay," Mia said, playfully. "I am your second best friend. But I will always protect you, just like you always protected me back then."

We hugged, and then Cassie thanked Mia again. I was glad that the two of them had squashed their differences and were now friends. It made me happy to know that they were getting along. Mia left later, after we had talked about everything that had happened. She was sad that Ryan had been killed, but she knew he had brought it upon himself.

Later, I was in my room, and Cassie went to get me some lunch. Then, there was a knock on the door, and Brian came in. "Hey," he said. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm doing great," I said. "How are you?"

"I'm doing better now that you're back home safely with your family," he said. He came over and stood next to me. "I'm so sorry for everything," he said. "I should have tried harder to get you away. I let you get kidnapped again".

"It's okay, Brian," I said. "I'm hoping we can start over and let go of all the anger and resentment we had in the past."

"I don't deserve your forgiveness," he said. "I did all of this to you for something you never did. I've been angry and bitter, and it made me hurt you and my family. I don't deserve anyone's forgiveness."

"That's not true, Brian," I said. "I know you're a good person and a great big brother to Cassie. You deserve so much more. I wouldn't want you to be far away from us. You are part of our family."

He looked at me, and then the door opened. Cassie came in, and she looked surprised to see Brian there. Brian looked at her with regret in his eyes.

"I should go," Brian said. He started to leave, but Cassie stopped him. She went over and hugged him.

"Thank you," she said.

"For what?" he asked.

"For saving us," she said. "If you hadn't attacked Shawn that day, who knows what could have happened."

"It's the least I could do, after all the trouble I caused," he said. "I'll see you both around." And then he left the room.

"Hey," she said, handing me the lunch she'd brought. "I got you Chinese."

"Thank you," I said.

"The doctor said you can be discharged tomorrow," she said.

"Oh, good," I said. "I miss my home and my son, but most of all, I miss my wife." I kissed her neck. "I've missed you so much," I said.

"Xander, not here," she scolded me. I couldn't help myself. I missed her so much. I peppered her neck with little kisses. She had no idea how much I wanted her right now. She pulled me away from her. "Xander, stop," she said. "We can do this when we get home, but not here." I pouted, and then she surprised me and kissed me. It was like my control was broken, like it always was when we kissed. I kissed her back, and it quickly got hot. She tried to push me away but I didn't let her go, I kissed her hard I tried to keep my hands to myself, but they found their way to her breast and squeezed it gently. God, how much I missed her. The door opened and a Nurse came in.

The nurse looked at us strangely. We pulled apart, embarrassed by what had happened. I could tell Cassie felt shy about what the nurse had seen. But I was smiling - I was just happy. The nurse checked my vitals, and then she left.

The next day, I was discharged and Cassie drove me home. I was greeted by my mom, Caleb , Mia, Cassie's mom and dad, and even Brian. My son looked so grown up now. I went to him and picked him up. Cassie told me to be careful about my wounds, but I didn't care. I had missed my son so much.

I hugged him and he said, "Dada!" Everyone was surprised. Some even started crying. "Yes, Alex," I said, "dada's here, and I won't leave you again. I promise." I kissed his forehead. We had a little party to celebrate my return and Cassie's dad talked to me and apologized for everything that had happened. Then, we talked about the business and everything else.

Cassie told me that she had helped run my company while I was gone, and I was grateful to her for that. I asked my assistant to send me a report on what was going on with the company now. I was glad to hear that the money I had transferred to Caesar had been returned to me. I talked with Brian and Mr. James, and we all had a great time together.
