A Year Later
Billie Ann was standing backstage at DeKalb School of the Arts as she was about to do a musical for her peers that family was allowed to attend. She kept peeking out to see if her mom made it.
Whitney was at her doctor's appointment, she kept checking the time as this appointment was running longer than she expected it to. She finally texted her mother to let her know that she didn't think she was going to make it just as Billie Ann's teacher introduced the show.
She walked out on stage to begin the show.
The doctor came back into Whitney's exam room, "Whitney I'm sorry but we are going to have to run more tests. The ultrasound is showing what appears to be tumors on your uterine wall." The doctor said
Whitney looked down, "Can we do this another day? I'm missing my daughter's school performance." She said
"I'm sorry Whitney but we need to do it today to see what our game plan will be." The doctor said
"Ok.." she said
The tests they ran was endometrial biopsy, transvaginal ultrasound, a D&C and a medical history report.
After Billie Ann's school performance was over her grandparents hugged her, Oliver gave her flowers.
"Where's mom?" She said
"I don't know. She texted me earlier and said she didn't know if she would make it. But that's all she said. So come on let's go eat baby then we will find out what happened to her." Estelle said
They went to grab dinner and went to Whitney's house, when they walked in they found her crying in the living room.
"Mom? What happened?" Billie Ann said
"Baby Im sorry. My doctor's appointment ran longer than I expected. I need you all to sit down." She said
Billie Ann sat down as Estelle and Oliver took the love seat as her sister sat down too.
"Um..the reason it took so long is because they had to run a bunch tests, labs and scans. Um Ive been diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer." She said
Billie Ann gasped as she felt tears welling. Later that night Billie Ann called Robert crying.
"Billie Ann baby girl what's wrong?' Robert said
"Daddy I'm scared, I don't want mama to die.." she said
"Baby what are you talking about? Did Mama get hurt? Was there an accident?" He said
"No..she has cancer. Daddy I'm so scared I.." she said
"Shhh baby. Calm down..just breathe." He said as tears welled in his own eyes.
"You should call Nana she and Mama talked a good long awhile." She said
"Ok baby I love you get some rest." He said and they hung up.
