The next morning after Billie Ann left for school Estelle came over to Whitney's house.
"Hey mom.." she said
"So I have pulled some strings, and I'm getting you in with the top oncologist in New York." Estelle said
"But mom I live here.." she said
"I know. I had a long conversation with Robert last night. He said Billie Ann called him hysterical saying she was scared that you are going to die." Estelle said as she sat down with her cup of coffee.
"What does he have to do with this?" She said
"He has offered to let you and Billie Ann stay with him while you are going through chemo and radiation." Estelle said
She looked at her mother confused.
"What's with the look?" Estelle said
"I don't believe you. That man..never put me first." She said
"Baby call him yourself." Estelle said then left.
A few hours later she called Robert.
"Robert Jacobs" Robert said when he answered the phone.
"Hey it's whitney." She said
"I know that voice anywhere." Robert said
"Is my mother pulling my leg or did you really offer to let me stay?" She said
"She's telling the truth Whit. I know what you think of me..but I'm not the guy I was in college and law school." He said as he sat back in his chair.
She looked down, "Robbie as soon as I'm better I will find my own place..but thank you. I will call back later so we can tell Billie Ann later when she gets home from school." She said
"Sounds good I will work on getting her in the performing arts highschool here. Can't wait to see you all." He said and they hung up.
That night after they told Billie Ann, Robert went into the bedroom he pulled out a envelope that Whitney had left on his pillow when she left. It has their wedding photo, her rings and a two pieces of notebook paper with the lyrics of "I Will Always Love You" on it.
"I miss you Whit, I will make you see that Ive changed." He whispered to himself.
