Annkoto - Chapter 21: Everything's Very Right

Makoto: *Ren! Can I... come over to Leblanc?*

It's Sunday morning, the day after Makoto and Ann's date. Makoto decided to call Ren and asked if she could come over.

Ren: *Is there something wrong?*

Makoto: *No, nothing's wrong... everything's very right actually...*

Ren: *You're not just going to gush about Ann the whole time are you?*

Makoto: *B- But Ren! You're like my best friend, and don't friends talk about romance often?*

Ren: *I'm only teasing, you can come over whenever.*

Makoto: *Okay! See you soon!*

...

She swiftly arrived at Leblanc. Ren opened the door to greet her.

Makoto: "Good morning!"

Ren: "Good morning."
He lets her in.

Makoto: "Sorry I just can't wait to talk about this! I need to tell you about our date last-"
She notices Sojiro behind the bar and trails off.

Sojiro: "A date huh? What have you kids been getting up to this summer?"

Makoto: "Oh it's nothing, sorry for disturbing you Boss, I just uhm-"

Sojiro: "Don't worry about it. Ah, I can remember my high school days. Hoo-wee, what a time."
...
Ren and Makoto make it upstairs.

Makoto: "Uhm so, as I was saying, Ann and I-"

Morgana: "Ugh, you brought her here?"

Makoto: "What's that supposed to mean!?"

Ren: "Isn't it about time you move on?"

Morgana: "Absolutely not. Lady Ann will be mine one day."

Makoto: "Wait, were you serious about that?"

Morgana: ">:( Was it not obvious!?"

Ren: "You were too slow Morgana. She got her first."

Morgana: "That doesn't matter! It won't last anyway, what I have in my heart is pure unwavering love!"

Ren: "More like unrequited love..."

Morgana: "What was that!?"

Makoto: "Ahaha, do you two always bicker like this?"

Ren: "Not really, this guy's just been extra sour recently."
He pokes at Morgana's cheek.

Makoto: "I'm sorry Morgana, I'll make it up to you."

Morgana: "You'll give her back to me??"

Makoto: "No! And what do you mean 'back'!?"

Morgana: "She was mine before you took her!"
Ren holds up his arms in an X shape, imagine a loud incorrect buzzer sound effect.

Makoto: "I meant I'll make it up to you by supporting you and the Phantom Thieves. I'll do my best to help you recover your memories too."

Morgana: "Hmpf, I don't need your pity."
...
Makoto: "...Can I talk about my date now?"

Ren: "Of course. I'd love to hear about it."

Morgana just sits there and stares.

Makoto: "Are you staying too?"

Morgana: "I'm just mildly curious is all."

Makoto: "Okay! Well, last night Ann reserved us a table at this very nice Italian restaurant."

Ren: "Is that the one in Shibuya?"

Makoto: "It is! You've really gotten to know the city well, Ren."

Ren: "Uhm it's not that. Akechi took me there once too."

Makoto: "Oh! That's great! Hmm, we should probably go someplace else for our double date then..."

Ren: "Double date?"

Makoto: "Oh did Akechi not tell you? We wanted to schedule a double date with the four of us."

Ren: "I didn't accidentally mention that you and Ann are dating to him did I?"

Makoto: "Oh no, don't worry Ren. He doesn't actually know about Ann, I just told him that I have a girlfriend who's in the closet."

Ren: "I'm glad then. So are you saying we'll do that when Ann is ready to be more open about your relationship?"

Makoto: "Yes, exactly. She seemed happy once I told her about it, so maybe she will be ready pretty soon."

Morgana: "Keep on topic, airheads."

Makoto: "Are you that interested in our date, Morgana?"

Morgana: "I just wanna know if my Lady Ann is safe, and that you didn't do anything nasty to her."

Makoto: "N- Nasty!?"

Ren: "Don't mind him. Go on, Makoto."

Makoto: "Right. So we chatted for a while, and I actually embarrassed myself by trying to flirt with her just as the waiter was walking up to our table..."

Ren: "Haha, that sounds like you Makoto."

Makoto: "A- And then uhm, she ordered some tiramisu for desert and fed a few bites to me."
She blushes, closes her eyes, and tilts her head as if she's reliving the moment.

Ren: "That's cute."

Makoto: "Mhmm, and I fed her some too of course. It was so romantic."

Morgana: "I see. Nothing too bad there, I might not have to step in for now-"

Makoto: "And then as we were about to leave for then night, she kissed me on the cheek to say goodbye! Ren, have I died and gone to heaven?"
She grabs Ren's hands and looks as if she's anxiously awaiting an answer to her clearly rhetorical question.

Ren: "Ooooo, I didn't know Ann had it in her."

Morgana: "L- Lady Ann... did that?"

Makoto: "Ren, what do you think this means? Does she want to take things a step further?"

Morgana: "This world is so cruel..."

Ren: "I would say so, at least judging from my experience."

Makoto: "But I'm really worried about overstepping her boundaries."

Ren: "Remember, as long as you ask for consent before you make any moves, you'll be fine."

Makoto: "Right, consent is key."

...

The two of them chatted until late in the afternoon. Eventually, Makoto had to head back home to start making dinner for herself and Sae.
Makoto: "Ren! I'll text you once she's ready for the date!"

Ren: "Sounds good! Remember that we're going to Mementos again this week."

Makoto: " Of course, leader. Good night!"

Ren goes back into Leblanc after seeing her off.
Sojiro: "Nijima-san seems a lot more cheerful than the last few times I've seen her."

Ren: "Yeah, she does, doesn't she."
