There's a lot of jumping around through time and different places.

Sorry it's so rushed—I was really excited for the end and kind of hurrying through the rest :|

Thank you so much to everyone who has read, voted for, or commented on this story!

"She's not ready!" the woman says. She does not meet the man's eyes and instead paces across the hardwood floor of the small room.

"She's going to have to be," responds the man. He ranks higher than her and tries to keep his sense of superiority over her yelling. "He wants her missions to start the day after tomorrow."

The woman stops pacing. "The day after tomorrow?!" she exclaims. She meets his eyes.

The man nods.

"But we have only just found her. The machine—the machine hasn't even been tested yet!"

"Then test it and have her ready by the day after tomorrow." The man is done with this; he has places to be and people to see. He prefers to leave his problems to her so he won't get in trouble with the boss.

The resistance in the woman's face drops away. She, too, knows how urgent this is if they are to restore their country to its former glory.

"And it has been tested," reminds the man. "In the Winter Soldier program." He turns to go.

"That was different," the woman snaps, making him pause with one hand on the doorknob. "The soldiers were not to remember anything. The Black Widow will have to remember her true self."

Grief hit them all in different ways.

They all cried, though, some more than others.

Bruce, most of all, channeled his emotions through tears; he would hide out in his room and cry, and not emerge until Fury was banging on his door, demanding he come out.

Thor got upset often—snappier. One moment he'd be having a normal conversation, then if she was brought up he'd argue about her and her greatness. He liked to talk about how people underestimated how strong she was.

Maybe the grief hit those two the most, or maybe the least, because as soon as Thor heard of a problem on Asgard he grabbed his new hammer, Stormbreaker, and took Bruce to Asgard to get away from everything. It was not unusual that he left Mjolnir at the compound, since he seemed to favor the bigger hammer now. He claimed Mjolnir had brung him many a'victories, but it had failed him once. Thor never wanted a repeat of what had happened five years ago, and he was willing to do anything—no matter how weird or superstitious—to prevent it.
