Description: This is a What If story with two separate parts, the first is: What If Natasha had gotten Yelena out of the plane before they could go to Cuba and then further the Red Room? And: What If the Avengers and the Ohio mission took place at the same time, and Clint and Coulson were sent to stop the Russian spies? This story follows Yelena and Clint as Yelena struggles on her own to follow Natasha's instructions, and Clint tries to piece together what happened to the scared little girl he found hiding behind a tent.

I hope this long chapter makes up for my absence! Sorry, guys. I got sick and it SUCKS. EVERYTHING HURTS.

I'm gonna reread and edit this chapter tomorrow or the next day, because I'm so lazy and tired right now 😑

But there's actually a lot of Natasha in this chapter finally! Yay!

Also, one more thing, since Marvel purposefully does a bunch of, like, scenes that are really similar to old scenes to echo them and make audiences (*cough* me *cough*) cry, I added some overlapping scenes between this character and "Run," (Part Two), so I hope you enjoy them!

:)

Edit:

I reread and edited this chapter, so it should be slightly more bearable to read.

Also, I NEED MORE CHAPTER IDEAS! My mind has run out of good ones :(

Thank you so much to everyone who has read this story! It's at 701 reads already!!!

Yelena could hardly sleep the rest of the night.

It turned out that Clint had woken her to tell her the news at around 3 AM, then had left to go back to sleep on the pullout couch.

Yelena, on the other hand, was filled with racing thoughts and memories. Pure nervous excitement filled her throughout the early morning, until she gave up tossing and turning, and just ran to the window.

The curtains were drawn over the window, but Yelena tore them open. She perched herself on the window ledge, and just stared out into the dark city of New York. Even in the pitch black of night, she could make out ambulance sirens and honking cars and flashing headlights.

Yelena dragged the plug-in clock as close to the window as she could get without unplugging it, and every few minutes she checked it.

She was waiting for something—what? She did not know exactly. Maybe the car that would bring her sister here, maybe for the sun to peek out and replace the moon in the sky.

Don't be scared of the full moon, Yelena, Yelena remembered Natasha telling her when she got frightened by the glowing orb in the sky that illuminated the shadows of the trees, be afraid of what new moons hide. Fear what is hidden in the darkness. In hindsight, this was probably not the best thing to tell a scared five-year-old, but Yelena did eventually calm down once Natasha allowed her to crawl into bed with her. And Yelena never feared werewolves or shadows or the moon again.

Yelena's eyes follow the moon as it painstakingly made its way across the sky. Then her attention traveled to the bright, emerging sun.

The sky soon turned pink and orange and blue and all colors in between. The sight stilled Yelena's pounding heart for a moment as Yelena took in the sight.
