It's unforgivable,
I stole and burnt your soul
Is that what demons do?
They rule the worst of me
Destroy everything,
They bring down angels like you

Sal sat in his kitchen, prosthetic off, his hands wrapped around the warm mug of herbal tea, but his mind far away, lost in a haze of grief and confusion.

It had been a week since the accident, that had taken Travis's life, and the pain still felt fresh, raw, as if it had happened just moments ago.

Ashley, his best friend, sat across from him, her presence a comforting anchor in the storm of his emotions. She reached out, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder, her eyes filled with empathy and understanding.

"How are you holding up, Sal?" she asked softly, her voice carrying a note of concern.

Sal sighed heavily, his shoulders slumping under the weight of his grief. "I don't know, Ash," he murmured, his words barely audible. "I still can't believe he's gone."

Ashley squeezed his shoulder reassuringly, offering him a small, understanding smile. "It's okay to feel lost, Sal," she said gently. "Losing someone you love is never easy, but you're not alone. I'm here for you and not only me, no matter what."

Sal took a deep breath, trying to steady his trembling hands. The weight of Travis's absence pressed down on him like a suffocating blanket, and the realization, that he would never see him again threatened to overwhelm him.

"I just keep thinking, that he's going to walk through that door any moment now," Sal murmured, his voice thick with sadness. "That this is all just some terrible mistake."

Ashley's heart ached for her friend as she listened to his words, her own eyes misting with tears. She reached out, gently grasping his hand in hers, offering him what little comfort she could.

"I know, Sal," she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's hard to accept that he's gone, but you're not alone in this. We'll get through it together, okay?"

Sal nodded, a silent tear slipping down his cheek as he leaned into Ashley's comforting embrace.

Travis couldn't be gone. It just didn't make sense. He was supposed to be here, laughing and joking with him like always. They had plans, dreams they were going to chase together. How could all of that just vanish in an instant?

The ache in Sal's chest grew heavier with each passing moment, a constant reminder of the gaping void left behind by Travis's absence. But Sal refused to acknowledge it. He couldn't bear to face the reality of life without his love of life.

Sal's hand trembled as he held the phone to his ear, the familiar tone ringing out in the quiet room. Each ring felt like a painful reminder of the reality, he desperately wished to deny.
