Mead's POV:
An idea pops into my head, "Kill them all. Even Langdon. Those relentlessly boring young people said that Langdon has a working computer. We kill everyone, we take possession of the computer, we find out where The Sanctuary is."
Venable asks me, "And make that journey all that way on our own?" I ask, "Why not? You're mean and self-involved enough to survive anything. And I'm a goddamn robot." Venable smiles, "I will never forget your loyalty to me." I answer honestly, "I'm programmed to be loyal to you. I can feel no doubt in me about that." Venable points out, "Good."
Amber's POV:
I wake up later, to an alarm ringing throughout the outpost. It's the perimeter alarm, it's been breached again. When I wake up, I notice that I am lying on a bed, with a blanket over me.
The strangest thing is, I don't remember going to bed, at all. As I look around the room, I realize it's not my own room. As I sit up, frantically, I hear a voice, "Good to see that you are up."
I ask out loud, "What happened to me?" Langdon makes his presence known to me as he tells me, "You fainted in my arms last night." I admit, "I'm not usually like this. I don't know why I'm fainting a lot more now, I never have fainted before. I don't remember even getting out of bed last night."
I apologize to him, "I'm so sorry if I disturbed you last night. You must've been busy with something important and I ruined it." He says to me, "No. no" He holds my face in his hands, as I hold onto his own hands with mine, "Amber, you could never bother me. I'm just glad that you are feeling okay, especially after the rough couple days you've had."
I nod my head at him, "Thank you for helping me,but I'll let myself out." He nods his head, "Of course. It was my pleasure to help you." As I walk out of the room, he grabs my arm, "A word of caution, Amber. Share with your siblings, but no one else."
I stop as I listen for him to continue, "Venable will announce a Halloween masquerade ball party here at the Outpost- but no matter what, keep your siblings safe, and none of you eat those apples. Unless..." I ask, "Unless what?" He tells me point blankly, "Unless you want to end up like Snow White."
My mouth forms an "o" and I nod my head, "I understand. Thank you for telling me. I will tell Lola and Casen, and keep them safe." He smiles at me as he releases me, "I know you will." I smile with the information that I have and I leave his room.
Narrator's POV:
When Amber was a little girl, she was a little girl, who kept to herself. When her parents died, and her stepmother began to call all the shots, everything changed...for the worst.
Most of her step siblings were very rude to her, both at home and at school. She did her best to avoid them at all times, that way she didn't cause any sort of trouble. Otherwise, she would've had to face the wrath of her stepmother, who was the worst person to deal with.
One night, after she finished cleaning. She goes to her room in the attic, to go to sleep. Her bedroom, she painted it herself, to look like that one bedroom from one of her favorite movies growing up, 'Hook.'
As Amber sits by her closed window, reading her favorite story of'Peter Pan' she remembered her grandmother, telling her about a story, "All children, except one grow up. Now you know where fairies come from, don't you, Amber?"
They both agreed that fairies are born from the laughter of babies, "And look, there's Wendy. This room reminds me of the one room where my siblings and I would tell bedroom stories about Peter Pan and scary old Captain Hook."
When Amber finished reading the Peter Pan book, for what felt like the thousandth time, she looks at the window and says, "I believe." Just as quick as she says it, the windows flash themselves open and in flies a shadow.
