Amelia POV

We finished classes, and I was sitting with Neyala in the cafeteria. It was crowded and noisy today, and I wasn't feeling it at all. First, Ma was being a pain in the ass, not allowing me to go on a trip to London with my friends, and Neyala was just being herself—annoyingly cheerful.I just wanted to stay in my room and sleep all day.

"Come on, Ams, at least put a smile on. Life isn't that bad," Neyala interrupted my thoughts. I shrugged, focusing on eating my fries.

"So, the triplets' birthday is coming up. Any ideas yet?" she asked, and I already knew where this conversation was headed.

"Hmm, not really, but I believe Mom already planned it with Jenny," I replied, purposely mentioning Jenny's name to annoy Neyala. I didn't mean to hurt her, but I wanted her to realize it was time to move on. She was always the one organizing with Mom, but this year seemed different. I expected her to make a big deal out of it, as she usually does, but surprisingly, she didn't react much.

"That's it?" I asked, taken aback by her lack of reaction.

She shrugged it off and showed me photos on her phone. "Well, now that your sister has diabetes, cake isn't a good idea. I found this fruit cake option—it's healthier," she explained, scrolling through various images. I decided to drop the subject and focus on listening to her ideas.

"Anyways, now I have a surprise for you. So, chop-chop, we should get going," she said, pulling me up by my arm before I could even respond. I tried to resist, but she didn't let go.

"Where are we going? I should be home for lunch. Mom is already waiting for me," I protested, but she ignored my questions. I saw her car parked outside the gate.

"Someone dropped you off today?" I asked, surprised, as she opened the back door and pushed me inside. "Nope, and have fun with your sexy lawyer!" she shouted, closing the door quickly before I could react.

I was confused until I saw who was in the driver's seat. How great.

"You've got ten seconds to unlock the door so I can get out of here peacefully," I threatened, not really caring, I just wanted her out of my sight.

"Nope, no can do," she replied, giving me her signature perfect smile. It had been a while since I last saw her. She started driving off without saying another word, and a calm silence filled the car. I'm on my period, which usually made me quiet and moody.

We arrived at the parking lot by the beach, and she got out of the car to open the door for me. I tried my best not to smile as I noticed she was still wearing her work attire, confirming that it was her lunch break.

"I just want us to talk alone with no disruptions. Can I please have that?" she asked sweetly.

"Well, you kidnapped me, looks like I've got no other choice," I said, rolling my eyes. "I could get you back if you want, but if so, you're willing for us to have an adult discussion here, then that would be perfect."

Our last encounter wasn't perfect. She stopped coming to our house, and surprisingly, Ma asked about her whereabouts. I felt bad—I made a mistake and actually thought of fixing it. After all, she's family to us.

"No, it's fine. I actually also wanted to talk to you," I admitted. She asked whether we should sit or take a walk, but since the weather was beautiful, a walk wouldn't hurt.

We walked for a few minutes, not saying much. Since it was Tuesday, no one was at the beach, making it unusually quiet.

"Uhmm, I know our last encounter wasn't the best, but I miss you, Amelia," she started off straight away. "... And I'm sure you do too. I'm pretty confident about it. Actually, I know you don't mean what you said last time, but what I don't get is, why are you pulling away?" She asked.
