I see a dull blue lights flashing around me. then a metallic bang, as I regain my consciousness, I am in a metal cage surrounded by large wooden crates, "where am I?" I whispered to myself. I could hear the fear in my voice, I look around and see what I assume to be boxes of supplies, notice moving, I am moving up, fast. my heart is pounding faster and faster as adrenaline courses through my veins, my shirt and cargos feel heavier than usual as I accelerate upwards, then the box slows to a stop as I try to gather myself and stand up, my legs were so weak, I just ended up staying on the floor watching to see what would happen.
I am met a bright light at the roof of the box opens as my eyes adjust to what I can only assume as my destination, "is that a girl?" a man with prominent eyebrows says as I notice a few other boys gather round.
"move boys" the eyebrow guy said as he pushed past the others then opened the cage, he stepped down into the box with a loud thud as I feel the metal box I was trapped in move, he then bends down slightly then extends a 'welcoming' hand for me to help me stand up, "hey there greenie,I am gally" he said I look at his hand, and grab it, as I feel the adrenaline still in my body which made me impulsive, as my instincts kicked in, this made me take his hand and I pull him closer then I punch him swiftly to his face, I can tell he didn't expect this as he stumbled back trying to regain his balance.
"that's got to hurt!" I hear a blond skinny guy with a British accent said as he chuckled to himself, clearly entertained by what he had witnessed, I jump out of the box and avoided the other boys as I start to run while looking around, there is four walls but then I notice a gap in one of the walls, it looked like the only way in and out of this strange place so I sprinted to it as I hear some boys shouting to try and stop me, I hear concern in their voices as they shout stuff like, "grab her. she is running to the maze" "where are the runners?" "someone grab her", I ignore them, as I see at the corner of my eyes some of them trying to chase me but I just barely outrun them partly due to the adrenaline and fear, as I am about to reach the exit but someone runs into me, and pushes me to the ground knocking the air out my lungs with a loud thud, he is on top of me pinning me to the ground, I grunt in pain, my head throbbing in agony as it hit the ground. I look up at him, his broad chest, dark eyes and even darker hair, which only made me more breathless, I was memorised, mainly because I did not expect someone to tackle me and giving me a headache.
"don't you dare move, you are going to get yourself killed shank" the guy says, "I don't think I really have a choice here" I grunt trying to squirm but his grip only tightens around me wrists "are you trying to get yourself killed slinthead" he says again with anger for my attempts to squirm out of his grip, as few others jog towards us as I still look at him, "can you get off" I tell him as I glare at him annoyed, the guy leans a little closer then said "make me greenie" he says as he grins at me knowing I am unable to out power him yet I still try and push him off but he does not budge, I didn't realise how hopeless I was.
"nice one Minho" someone says, "thanks Alby" Minho responds, as Alby pats Minho on the back, a few of the boys grab me from Minho and hold me up, as Alby says to me "welcome to the glade, don't worry there is nothing to be scared of" i look around then I see the eyebrow guy run towards us with a bloody nose he looked pissed off at me. "what the hell happened to you gally?" a young boy asked, "well chuck, this slinthead punched me" he said as he staired at Ably ,Alby sighs then looks as me disappointed where as Minho looks impressed and like he was trying not to laugh as he heard I punched gally , "you know the rules Alby" gally said as he stared at Alby still pissed off, he sighs and Minho looks at me, "did you punch him?" Alby asks, I nodded looking at the floor, "well then take her to the pit for tonight" Alby continues, as I look at the floor as the sound of a pit didn't sound too cosy "welcome to the glade my ass" I mumble as chuck and a few others laugh discretely, the 2 guys holding me the start to drag me to a stick cage that the put me in and lock it. I try and move the door but thoroughly enough it was locked and securely in place.
I sat in the cage accepting defeat, staring at the sky, the sun very slowly retreating behind the massive walls that surrounded this 'glade', I started to think about how I could get out of the cage, then someone approaches my the pit which attracts my attention, "hey newbie" a tall blonde guy said, I almost jump as this caught me off Gard as I stare at him confused, "I am Alex" he introduced myself smiling at me, I rack my brain to try and remember my name but nothing, "it is fine if you don't remember your name, are you ok in there?" he then asked, "yes" I mumbled, I noticed Alex was just staring at me now which made me a little uncomfortable, my attentions shifts to Alby as he is walks over to us.
I notice in the background a good bit away I see Minho watching with his arms crossed as he talked to another Glader but occasionally he glanced at me, I stand up and walk over to Alex and Ably so there was only the wooden stick wall in-between us as I held the wooden bars, "hey newbie" Alby said then he looked at Alex and said in a low tone so it would be hard for me to hear him "hey Alex, what are you doing here?" Alex responded "just checking in on the new kid, bye newbie" he say as he turns to me then walks off, Alby Shaked his head confused then turned to me "anyway, tomorrow morning I will come by and get you out of here and I will show you around, we wont hurt you here as long as you don't hurt us but you have to pull your own weight" I nod but then ask "but how do I pull my own weight?" Alby responded "we all, have roles here and we will find you one, but you are the only girl here and I will make sure that does not disadvantage you, the boys here will treat you like an equal if you fulfil all of your responsibilities" I nod again understanding what I will have to do, "night, see you tomorrow" Alby said as he left, I looked at where Minho was standing but he was long gone.
I lay down on the cold ground and try to think of what role I should do as I would probably be stuck doing it for a while, as I was thinking I wondered what skill would benefit me as much as everyone else, then the thought hit me, looking after people like some sort of doctor, I mean if I learn how to do that, I could treat myself, I later fell asleep content with what role I should do.
