"morning greenie" I feel cold water splash on my face, I jump up from fright, "what the hell gally?!", he just laughed at me, "I have to have some sort of revenge from last night, anyway clint wants to speak to you" he turned his back to me and left, then I noticed someone I barely recognised from last night he must of been clint he was younger than I expected, "hey you are clint right? the med-jack" I said as I got out of bed and reached for my clothes, he looks at me and nods, "yeah, follow me I will show you show a book but you can get changed first" I go to the bathroom and get changed then come out and we started to walk to the library as I followed him he adds "there are some books on anatomy, I personally don't think you need to read all of them, just skim through the pages that what I try and do, there is a meeting of the keepers after lunch so I wont see you probably until tomorrow so I want you to have some sort of understanding by then" he approaches a bookshelf and hand me 6 books, I struggle to carry them, so I place them on a table, "I am going to head to lunch I suggest you do the same, nice to meet you again, what is your name? do you remember it?" I shake my head, "nice to meet you clint" I say as he walked away, "likewise" he said not looking at me as he left for lunch, I think clint seems like a nice person.
I felt bad for him as he seemed kind of nice even though so many people slagged him off, I look at the stack of books, "I am going to at least get lunch first" I though as I walked to the kitchen, "hey Fypan" I said "hey newbie, here for lunch?" I nod as he hand me some food, "thank you so much this looks nice" I said as a gratefully take the plate and a glass of water and I headed outside, I look around deciding where to sit, Alex makes contact with me as he gestures for me to sit with him Minho.
the other runners must of already been in the maze, Alex gestures for me to sit right beside him, I do but I keep some distance between us as I didn't really want to be that close to him, "hey guys" I said to both of them, "hey" Alex said, Minho just looked at me then Alex as he ate his food, "what was clint talking to you about?" Alex asked, "he was just showing me some anatomy books" I look down at my food and take a few bites, "you must be smart" Alex says as he tries to complement me, "i have not read the books yet" I said quietly.
Minho gives me a little smile almost like he found what I said funny, Alex puts his arm around me and pulls me a little closer, "well you see I have an anatomy book you might like, stop by my house tonight and I can give you it" he whispered to me so Minho cant make it out, I shiver runs down my back as he was almost breathing on my neck, this made me uncomfortable to the point I almost felt sick, I try to not show my feelings and I keep looking at the table avoiding eye contact, "why tonight?" I said loud enough Minho could here.
Minho gives me a confused look as he does not know what I am on about, "keeper meeting, I have to go to that" I nod, Minho who has been watching the whole times finally speaks up "don't you need to be at that now? the others are starting to head to it" Alex take his arm off of me "yeah bye newbie" he said then he pats Minho on the back as if to say bye as well, Minho makes eye contact with me, I don't know why but I feel embarrassed so I look at the table as I turn a little red.
"what did he ask you?" Minho asked still looking at me, he has "an anatomy book he said he will give me if I stop by his hut tonight", Minho looks back as he sees Alex running to Alby's hut for the meeting, he then turns back to me "I have to go round to his tonight to speak to him...I can pick it up for you, I mean we sleep in the same room so it doesn't bother me", this made me feel relieved "yeah that would be great!" I say thankful that I wont have to see Alex again today.
"does he make you uncomfortable?" Minho asked, this caught me off Gard, I thought for a moment then I asked "why do you say that?", he now looks at me with his dark brown eyes that were riddled with concern, then he answered in a hushed calm voice "because you look uncomfortable, and it was weird how he put his arm around you like that", I could feel my heart racing a bit, I tired to stay calm, I thought I was Suttle with my opinions of Alex, "I mean a little" I admit, Minho nods understanding perfectly.
"anyway what are you doing today?" he asks at an attempt to change the subject as he could tell I was growing uncomfortable again, "not much, clint gave me some books to read" Minho nods, "what about you Minho?" I ask, "its my day off, I was in the maze yesterday so it is the other runners job today, do you remember your name yet?" I shake my head, "that's fine, If you don't remember by now then sometimes a key memory will remind you of it" I look at him confused "what do you mean a key memory?" he thinks for a moment then says "like a significant memory you remember from before you were here" I nod understanding him, we chat for a few more minutes.
"guess I should go and read the books now" I say as I pick up my plate and was about to get up when Minho says, "one more thing shank" I look at him, "if anyone here makes you uncomfortable please tell me.. I know you are closer to newt and Alby, but Newt is not a good fighter and Alby will do anything to maintain a good reputation", he looks at me with a mix of true concern and honesty, I touch his arm gently, "I promise" Minho nods back and I leave and place my dirty plates in the kitchen and head to the library to start to read the many books.
an hour or so passes, "sup" I look up and see newt I smile at him "hey newt I thought you had the meeting" he nodded "yeah but Alby asked to check on you" he said, "what are you reading?" I close the book "just stuff Clint recommended" "solid" he responded "you will do a better job than him as you at least read that crap" I couldn't help but laugh a little, "so how many books are you planning on reading in total?" he asked as he glanced at the pile of books looked out, "just those and Alex said he has a book for me" Newt looks at me confused, "oh"he said as he thought for a moment on how to word the next part "where are you getting the book from, or where did Alex get the book from?" he questioned, "I don't know where he got the book from, but Minho offered to pick it up from me as he said he needed to get something or ask him something" I explained, newt nodded then continued to say "anyway I am going to check on some of the others, see you around newbie" I responded "bye newt" then I continued to read until i hear someone walk in.
I look up "oh hey chuck how are you?" I say as I smile at him, he walks in and waits at the door, "me and a few others are playing some card games want to join", I think about it, then I look at a clock on the wall I have been reading for a few hours so why not? I though to myself "yeah that would be nice" I stand up and follow chuck as we went to our shared bedroom, where I see a group of two other guys in a circle with a deck of cards in the middle, they greeted me and I greeted them back and we started to play some card games.
