Chapter 37 - Lets compete

Carlos went on with his busy day, Siya was busy with her own stuff too, so there wasn't any overlap for them, at work or at the apartment when Carlos got back from his workout, and before leaving for a dinner with Lando and the party that followed.

He did think about how she was doing and he had his questions about why she asked a couple of times, about his arrival back home. Siya confirmed through texts that she was feeling much better, unable to take any calls of his during her schedule. So that was a little relief for Carlos.

"Buenos noches" Carlos greets Lando in Spanish on purpose, trying to mock him and Lando responds with a laughter "Buenos noches!"

They take a seat at the table "How's your day been?" Lando starts the chat

"Pretty busy" Carlos responds in his Spanish accent "I had some media stuff to do with Charles."

"Agh yeah" Lando nods looking at the menu.

They begin to order and Carlos' phone rings, he quickly wraps up his order and picks it up, while Lando continued with his order.

"Hola senora!" He chimes half forgetting about the main reason for dinner that night, and making it obvious who was on the other side.

"Yeah I'm with Lando now." He confirms "No that's okay, I thought you would have been busy" he says as a response to Siya apologising for missing his call "Are you on your way back home?" He listens upon asking the question.

"Okay ciao!" He says as he hangs up.

"Wait isn't she coming to the party?" Lando questions

"I don't know, did you invite her?" Carlos questions back

"Honestly, I don't remember mate!" Lando tries to remember "probably thought she'll accompany you, should've told her too" he adds taking a sip of his wine.

"You can call her now. I thought it's probably us, guys. I'm not sure if she'll attend today though. She's been a bit sick today" Carlos suggests and informs.

"Hmmm, I'll probably drop a text later" Lando decides and Carlos nods

"Well....." Lando takes a deep breath "now that we're at the topic" he says with a chuckle, trying to hide his nerves

"Yes" Carlos didn't have much to respond in this awkward situation

"Mate! Before we get into the topic, you know you're one of my best buds and I absolutely have no intention of ruining anything for anybody whatsoever. I don't even know how I ended up in this situation and I thought it'd be better if I just let it out to you." Lando begins and Carlos continues to hear

"I mean I see you guys together very often and reality has always been in front of my eyes, so I don't have expectations from this crush. I just need to get over it, but it felt weird and guilty to realise that I have a crush on my best friend's girlfriend."

"I'll probably tell this to Siya soon, and get that much needed rejection, if at all, all this starts to affect me a little too much." Lando continues

"Hmmmm" Carlos nods "Since when have you been feeling this way?" He inquires

"I kinda tried to ignore or overlook it, but now that I have acknowledged it, I'd say ever since that Twitch stream?" Lando informs "I mean Siya and I have been each other's plus ones for quite some time, if you remember the end of season party last year, I haven't never really thought about her that way, but I guess it's all that public attention that kinda inclined me towards her."

"What do you mean by public attention?" Carlos questions

"You know when they have revealed her to be McLaren's engineer and then people realised that you two are in a relationship, ironically being in rival teams, there are a lot of dig ups that fans did and some of them are pictures of me and Siya from some parties that we have previously attended for our families, so I have seen a couple of posts like that, saying that our friendship is good and some saying that we look good and all that" Lando tries to brush it off towards the end.
