I awoke to the faint talking from the TV in the other room, and the neighbor's dog barking, as usual. I rolled out of bed and put my hair up into a half-up half-down style. I then threw on some jeans which didn't smell dirty, even though they probably were. Luckily I found my  favorite baggy Beatles t-shirt and walked into the kitchen. I carefully picked up beer cans throughout the living room, making my way to the bathroom to dump them out. I grabbed my toothbrush and walked to the kitchen garbage, kicking the leg of the couch to wake up Dad on my way.

"Get up! You have work." I told him plainly, to which I received a groan.

"What time is it?" He asked. I knew he wouldn't be happy with my answer, but I had to tell him something.

"Ten." I began doing the dishes after I had spit out my toothpaste.

"What?!?" He jolted up and stared at me in shock.

"Relax! It's Sunday, and I know you're still late, but I figured I'd give your hangover sometime to go away..." I explain, handing him a glass of water. He took one sip, then walked into his room to get ready. About ten minutes later, he emerged from his room with his keys and I trailed behind him as he got in the car.

"Where are you going, kid?" He looked at me, confused.

"With you. Can you drop me off at the town square, I need to do some shopping. Pleeeeeeease Dad!" I begged. His station wasn't that far off from the square, so I assumed he would be on board.

"Sure." He sighed in defeat, knowing I would never let this go. He took off, and I played with the rings on my fingers.

"Goodbye. Don't do anything stupid, be at the Wheelers' by six, and I'll pick you up at eight-ish." He said as I opened the door. I hopped out and gave him a thankful smile.

"Bye, Dad. I love you!" I said as I walked away.

"Bye, kid." He drove away quickly and left me standing there. I walked into Melvald's General Store and the door made a ding as I walked in. I heard footsteps and a shorter, petite woman walked up to me. She had long brown hair that rested at her shoulders and bangs. She smiled at me sweetly and I immediately recognized her as Joyce Byers, Jonathan's mom.

"Welcome to Melvald's, how can I- oh! Hi, Sweetie! Can I help you today!" Her face lit up upon seeing me, and I smiled back. I love Joyce, she's always so kind to me. She's a lot like a mother figure to me, ever since mine left and we came to Hawkins.

"Hi, Mrs. Byers. I was wondering if you carried any lightbulbs? The one in Dad's room went out, and I couldn't find a spare, and he's too lazy to replace it himself." I blushed a bit over the fact that I completely over-shared. I smiled a bit, trying to hide my nervousness. She laughed and walked me to the aisle that had lightbulbs and helped me pick out the one I needed. I also got some pretty twinkling lights, that I'm pretty sure were meant for Christmas, but I thought they'd look bitchin' in my room. Mrs. Byers helped me check out, and I walked to one of the only clothing stores in town.

Something that nobody ever tells you about small towns is how little stores there are. At least, in Hawkins, there aren't a lot. Everyone gets their clothes from the same three shops, so it's pretty hard to develop a "style." The closest thing we had to a mall in 1983 was a single gap store, that was almost abandoned. I walked in and greeted the friendly yet unhelpful woman and got to shopping.

After almost an hour of shopping and having fun trying in ridiculous outfits, I realized the time.
