I numbly kept my eyes fixated on the TV. Dad had left a bit ago, to look for El, and told me to stay in case she came home. The door opened, and I snapped out of my trance, wiping my eyes and looking to the doorway. Noticing it was only my dad, I relaxed.

"Oh, hi Dad. Any sign of her?" I tightly grasped a pillow in my arms.

"Yeah, uh, I got a couple of leads but I still haven't found her." He said solemnly.

I gasped in grief and held my head in my hands, crying again. Dad sit on the couch next to me, rubbing my back. After a few minutes, the front door opened, then slammed shut. I looked up to see El standing in the doorway. "El." I said hopefully.

"'Friends don't lie.' Isn't that your bullshit saying?" Dad exclaimed. El began to storm off to her room, and I stood up and didn't go anywhere.

"Hey, hey! Hey! Don't walk away from me!" Dad yelled.

"Dad! Keep it cool." I muttered quickly.

Dad looked over at me and calmed down a bit. "Where'd you go on your little field trip, huh, where?" He asked, quiet now

"Did you go see Mike?" I said sympathetically, hiding my slight anger.

"He didn't see me." She muttered at us.

"Yeah, well, that mother and her daughter did and they called the cops." My eyes widened.

"Mother and daughter?" I asked Dad.

"Now, did anyone else see you? Anyone at all? Come on, I need you to think!" Dad inquired.

"Nobody saw me!" She yelled back.

"You put us in danger. You realize that, right?" Dad asked.

"Dad, stop-" El interrupted me.

"You promised... I go! And I never leave! Nothing ever happens!" She screamed.

"Yeah! Nothing happens and you stay safe!" Dad chimed in. My breathing got heavier and heavier.

"You lie!" She screeched at him.

"I don't lie! I protect and I feed and I teach! And all I ask of you is that you follow three simple rules. Three rules. And you know what? You can't even do that!" Dad says, banging on the coffee table.

"Dad! Stop it!!" I scream over at him. He ignores me and I step away towards El.

"You're not on my side? You were crushed when she was gone!" He asks.

"No!! I'm not going to be upset at her for wanting a little freedom. She hasn't been outside in a year, dad! A whole year!!!" I scream

"You're grounded. You know what that means? It means no Eggos.. And no TV, for a week." He tried to move the TV to his room but when he tries to pick it up, it doesn't move. Blood slowly drips from El's face.

Dad looks astounded, "All right, knock it off. Let go. Okay. Two weeks." El looks unaffected and Dad searches for a scarier option to make her give up. I try to protest by I know nothing will work.

"Let go!" He yells through gritted teeth.

"A month!"

"Dad!" I interjected.

 "No." El says, unflinching.

"Well, congratulations. You just graduated from no TV for a month to no TV at all!" Dad unplugs the TV and El lunges toward it trying to get it to work.

"Go to your room." Dad mutters, looking at me. I stomp off to my room, then plunge deep under my covers, holding my headphone tight to my ears, trying to drown out the screams coming from outside. After about a minute, Eleven screams and I hear a loud crash. I remove my headphones and peek out of my door. Glass lays on the floor and the cabin is a mess. Dad looks over at me, and rubs his forehead.

"Don't ask." He mutters. I nod, and slowly trudge back to my room. Luckily, my bedroom window appeared to be one of the few that hadn't exploded. I lay down again and shut my eyes. I toss and turn for hours, unable to sleep, thinking about everything. Steve, Eleven, the boys, Steve...
